  • Gareen Dreskk - Daughter
  • Coren Dreskk - Son
  • Magnus Dreskk - Son

Early years (41-28 BBY)

Taglar Dreskk was born (41 BBY) into Clan Dreskk, and raised on a fair-sized, family-owned farm not far from the capital city of Khoonda on the planet Dantooine. As soon as he was old enough his mother began training him in basic combat, medicine, and survival as well as giving him several chores around the family farm. When Taglar wasn’t working the farm or training he would tinker with some old communications gear left to him by his grandfather. At the age of 13 (28 BBY) he took the trials of adulthood and was declared Mandokarla, a state of having the “right stuff” to be Mandalorian.

Growing up on Dantooine (41-19 BBY)

Taglar spent the first thirteen years of his life working on the farm, receiving basic training, or tinkering with comm. equipment, so when he passed his trials he began training and working with his father. When he wasn’t helping to protect Khoonda and its surrounding homesteads from Wild Kinraths, Kath Hounds, or Mercenaries, he was either training to become a Communications Specialist/Special Forces Commando or mining the crystal caves for trade with the Jedi Enclave. Over the years, Taglar courted Elreen Lorant, the daughter of a local merchant, and introduced her to the Mandalorian life style. At the age of 21 (20 BBY) Taglar and Elreen were married, and had their first born, a daughter named Gareen, thus starting their own family. The following year, as the Clone Wars came to an end, they chose to move to another planet.

Life on Vareev (19-16 BBY)

Taglar staking out the jungles of Vareev

At the age of 22 (19 BBY) Taglar and his family started their new life on Vareev, a large planet covered primarily by plateaus and jungles that is known for its pod racing and advanced technology. Then at the age of 23 (18 BBY) his second child was born, a son named Coren. The same year he was contacted by Governor Jaess Zarus, the newly appointed Imperial Official for the Varidaal system, and hired as a personal bodyguard. Taglar moved his ever-growing family into the Imperial city of Rataan. Lord Vader had a facility for personal projects hidden deep beneath the Imperial Center, and left a large contingent of his 501st to protect it. When not attending to his family or his work, Taglar spent some of his free time befriending the Troopers of “Vader’s Fist”. At the age of 24 (17 BBY) a group of mercenaries hired by the “Delegation of 2000”, in the first unofficial act of the rebellion, shot down a troop carrier while attempting to infiltrate Vader’s facility. Taglar carried the entire 501st squad, one-by-one, from the burning transport wreckage, and was honored when that squad repainted the plates of his Beskar’gam to match their own armor. Over the years, Taglar realized that Governor Zarus was a weak-willed, sniveling, little man that only got where he was by playing the role of “Yes-Man”, and that Zarus trusted his advice and would almost always act on it. Dreskk took advantage of this and would give the governor council that benefit his family and the city. He would also sway Zarus’s judgment in favor of whichever party that could make his credit account swell so long as it did not affect his families well being. Then at the age of 25 (16 BBY) his third child was born, a son named Magnus.

Life on the Run (16-0 BBY)

Artist's rendering of Taglar

Shortly after his third child was born, Taglar began to doubt the growing control of the Empire over the galaxy. After Magnus had turned 5, Taglar left Vareev and took his family into hiding, fearing that Goveror Zarus would come after him for the knowledge of the Empire that he possessed.

Most of the family's life after that was moving from place to place in true Mandalorian nomadic style. He raised his children to follow the culture that had been passed down to him from his family. Shortly before the Battle of Yavin, Taglar and his family disappeared from documentation. No one knows how long they survived and which planet they could be found on. Although it is rumored that an older plain-clothed human had been helping the rebellion shortly before the battle of Yavin who had often mentioned working for the Empire on Vareev.

Physical appearance and personality traits

Taglar Dreskk - Unmasked

Dreskk has a heavyset build, dark brown hair, and blue eyes. He usually wears some form of facial hair whether it be a beard and mustache or a simple goatee. His hair is usually kept at a short length and is naturally curly and spiked in nature. While he may look slightly overweight, there is much muscle mass in his body and he can still keep up with the younger folks when push comes to shove.

Dreskk is an excellent leader, but prefers to stay out of the spotlight. While he does prefer to stay in control, he can follow orders when necessary. He has the ability to lead, but most often does not like to. Instead, he enjoys more to help others lead more as a "right-hand-man" then to take control himself. No one is sure if that is considered a sign of weakness or simply self-preservation as the leader is always targeted first. Don't mistake his self-preservation as completely vain though, as he was once rumored to drag his entire squad out of a downed transport ship one by one. Taglar is also known to have a temper to match his size, but tries to rein it in and unleash it on his enemies.

Equipment and weapons

Weapons

Dreskk uses many different weapons depending on what the occasion calls for. Dreskk's main weapon of choice for the time being is his highly modified blaster carbine. It is a 2 foot long carbine with scope and a very effective firing range. His sidearm is the Tenandro Arms PM-20 blaster. Both feature a very high rate of fire.

Other weapons include those mounted in his gauntlets such as a flamethrower, dart launcher, and wrist mounted laser. Often, he will go without the use of his carbine in situations where his hands are needed to be free as the carbine currently has no sling or holster.

Helmet

Dreskk's helmet features state of the art technology merged with ancient Mandalorian style. His helmet features a highly sensitive GPS system that allows him to locate himself and other marked targets anywhere within a 5000 meter range. His helmet also features hearing and voice enhancement as well as voice masking. His range finder was removed and replaced with a communications antennae array that allows surface-to-ship and surface-to-surface communications. The array works along with the communications pack to transmit/receive signals.

Armor/clothing

Dreskk wears a blue flight suit, and armor plates painted to match the color scheme of the 501st troopers. His armor is an amalgam of beskar and durasteel plates that have been pieced together over the years as they needed replacing or fixing. His helmet matches standard Mandalorian commando technology, but has a personalized communications array built in that is linked to a sophisticated Comm. system in his backpack.

His suit is sealed for environmental conditions and short-term protection against the vaccuum of space. The suit features a built in heating and cooling system that runs a series of coolant tubes throughout the underside of the fabric. The suit still allows for complete flexibility and movement.

Behind the scenes

  • Storyline created by Gann Oron
  • Taglar is the communications officer of the Mandalorian Mercs and a member of the "Cuy'val Dar" or Council of the Mercs. Taglar and a few others met Novall Talon for the first time in 2007 when the group was just beginning. Some of the conversation has helped direct Mercs into the larger thriving group that it is today.
  • Taglar Dreskk is a character created by Jon Nichols for use in costuming events and conventions. His original designs were based off of the armor and markings worn by the "Vader's Fist" 501st clones.
  • Taglar Dreskk appeared in two issues of the Star Wars Insider magazine.
  • Taglar is part of the Rancor Clan of the Mandalorian Mercs. As such, in September of 2008 he added the official clan logo to his shoulder bell and debuted it at a Labor Day parade. Also being a part of the former web forum "Heroes, Villians, and Mandalorians" the letters HVM in Aurebesh were added to the collar plate of his armor, along with the name "Dreskk" in Mando'a across the top left chest plate. The nickname "Tag" was added to the left side of his helmet in Aurebesh. In July of 2009, Jon received a tattoo that was an exact copy of the unique one from his armor's chest piece.

Evolutions of a costume

Over the past years, Jon has modified the look of his costume in many ways to satisfy his creative urges. The first design of the costume was debuted at AdventureCon in 2007. Shortly after, he removed the shins and thighs due to their small size. During Starbase Columbus' anniversary event in November 2007, he had repainted his shoulders white to add more contrast. Only a week later for MidOhioCon 2007 he repainted the stomach plate white to more closely resemble those of the clones. For Techfest 2008, he debuted a whole new set of shoulders, thigh, and shin plates, along with new boots and no boot armor. For the Columbus Toy Show 2008 he sported a new kama. For Starbase 2009, he finally brought the boot armor back for a full armored look.
