Rhylis was a Mandalorian soldier and engineer who lived during the galactic transition from Republic to Empire. He served as an infiltrator for the Confederacy of Independent Systems, fighting against the clones of famed Mandalorian, Jango Fett. Rhylis was a political idealist and often fought against the tide during his many confrontations over his lifetime. Later in life, he fought alongside the Rebellion to install The New Republic on the seat in Coruscant. In 3 ABY, Rhylis was wounded during the survey of an abandoned ship in orbit above Kath II. Rhylis' whereabouts post-mission are not known.

Biography

Rhylis was born in the latter part of 43BBY to an unknown set of parents. Soon after his birth, he was left in the care of an orphanage in the lower city of Coruscant. Rhylis's childhood was spent in the shadows of the great metropolis, playing in the streets of the lower city. The children at the orphanage were often beaten, and were forced to live in horrid conditions. At the age of eight, fed up with the treatment of his caretakers, Rhylis escaped the orphanage. Over the course of several weeks, he made his way to the upper city.

Rhylis was reported missing by the orphanage's owners. One morning on a walk from his makeshift home in an alley, Rhylis was spotted by security officers. None-to-subtly, the officers tried in vain to apprehend the skillful run-away. In an attempt to escape the security officers, Rhylis ducked into the first doorway he could find. Unfortunately this new hiding place was the cargo bay of a small personal freighter. Some minutes later, Rhylis found himself jostled about the deck as the ship left port and headed out into the blackness of space.

Rhylis had nothing to eat for days. Locked the cold cargo bay, he attempted to alert someone to his presence by beating on the walls. No one answered. When the ship docked again, Rhylis was found by the owner of the ship, Daj Orbin. The man was a Mandalorian mercenary. The Mandalorian grabbed him and threw him onto the landing platform, demanding to know why he was stowing away on his ship. The soldier pinned him to the ground. "To escape people like you!" Rhylis screamed, pushing the man's foot off his chest, and knocking his attacker to the ground, himself. The man was stunned and at a loss for words.

Rhylis' rage passed quickly, and he turned and ran out of the docking bay, leaving the breathless Mandalorian on the ground. When he came to the main plaza of the spaceport, he was confronted by a small squad of security enforcers. They came at him, and he ran, pushing his way through the crowd. After several paces, he came to a dead-end alley-way. He spun around; an animal trapped. The first officer came at him with a shockstick, but was knocked sideways into a wall. The second landed a punch, but Rhylis dropped him, too. The lead officer raised his weapon and clicked the weapon "on", ready to shoot and end the situation for good. Suddenly, a voice called out from behind the officers. "Wait! He's with me." Daj came into view and talked the officers out of the punishment, and took it upon himself to discipline the boy.

After a few days of recovery, Daj formally adopted Rhylis, and vowed to train him into a weapon to fight those that would try to leash the boy. Daj trained Rhylis how to use a blaster, and utilized Rhylis' skills in his mercenary work. Over the next few years, the two worked as a team taking on piracy jobs hitting freighters in the outter rim. When Rhylis was 15, Daj became ill and was bedridden for several months. On his deathbed, Daj gave Rhylis his armor. Just before Daj finally died, he told Rhylis that he was destined for glory. "Kote" was the last word that Daj whispered before dying. In memory of this moment, Rhylis took on word as his surname. Rhylis Kote.
