Biography

Adoption and Training ( 22 BBY - 14 BBY)

Rek was born on Corellia to a man who fierce tempered even when sober in 22 BBY, his mother is unknown. This man beat Rek terribly until one day when Rek was 6 years of age he mortally stabbed his father with a knife. Fleeing the scene Rek made his way to the Starport in Coronet in an attempt to steal a ship and get off the planet out of fear of imprisonment. The ship he chose to steal was a Star Courier class transport owned by Fi'lk Polus a Mandalorian Bounty Hunter. Although discovered by Fi'lk the Mandalorian took pity on the child and adopted him officially as his son.

Fi'lk trained Rek in the ways of the Mandalore warrior as often and as best he could, however his work seriously dampened this. Worse Fi'lk would die horrendously when Rek was merely 8 years of age his training as a warrior disappearing with the man.

Life on Mandalore ( 14 BBY - 4 BBY )

Following his fathers death Rek as per his wishes permanently relocated to Mandalore where he was employed in one factory after the other owned by MandalMotors. He became quite adept from studying their processes and techniques at engineering a variety of personal inventions. Still remembering deeply his father and his teachings he longed for the life of a warrior, but this had now become rarer on Mandalore, and there were none to train him. The only warrior who ever looked up on him was an old friend of his fathers another Bounty Hunter by the name of Ader. While Ader seemed to like Rek he never had the time or opportunity to teach Rek anything.

Mandalore Warrior and Entrepreneur ( 4 BBY - 67 ABY )

Rek continued working in factories until he was 18 years old when Ader returned after a hunt to finally take Rek away from that life. He told Rek a story that Fi'lk his father was working on a hunt for a stolen Imperial schematic for a ship that merited a name finally just before his death. He was now taking Rek to finish that hunt, and Rek was to be a "real" Mandalorian. Donning his fathers armor Rek joined the hunt totally unprepared for that task ahead. At the start Ader turned Fi'lks old Star Courier over to Rek for their use which Rek named Teilal, after a love of his he never was able to connect with.

The hunt was filled with many encounters that slowly drove Rek to become the warrior his father had intended him to be. Towards the end Rek repainted his armor red to match his new identity and to symbolize his Nandalorian fathers legacy which he cherished every day. He also would design his modification on the BlasTech E-11 which became is personal major weapon and was well received into limited production by various groups. Mostly this weapon was purchased due to its high cost by underworld individuals and some special forces teams in the Galactic Empire.

A full fledged Mandalorian by right and battle, Rek set out as a mercenary not a Bounty Hunter to make his fortune in the galaxy. He generally found himself in the early years in the employ of Ezorga the Hutt of Nar Shadaa who would send him to "collect" schematics and plans for various pieces of equipment for his clients. Occasionally Rek would be contracted for his expertise as a engineer and his combat knowledge by various factions including the Empire and Rebel Alliance to assist in battles and skirmishes when their respective sides forces were lacking strength.

During his later years around 46 ABY, Rek would retire officially from mercenary work having made his fortunes. Realistically he had not accepted a real job for a number of years. Oddly enough despite all the ill Rek talked of Corellia for its link to his early past, he chose that planet to settle on and live his remaining years. Rek was last seen boarding his aged starship the Teilal once last time in 67 ABY. The Coronet starport authorities recorded his navcomputers intended destination being Mandalore, but there was never any record of him arriving there or returning to Coronet. He is assumed dead, but the reason behind his disappearance is unknown. His red helmet the same helmet worn by Fi'lk before him, was found at his residence and donated by his residing city to a technology museum in Coronet in recognition for his many patents and inventions over the years. While the Mandalorian government has protested this display of one of its honored warriors, friends of Rek state it is totally within his wishes that it remain on display at the museum. To date it is still on display at the museum.

Physical Appearance

Rek Polus is a man with brown buzzed hair and average height. He typically wears poor quality clothes out of habit rather than his financial place. His armor is red with silver trim, on the side of his helmet is painted in Mando'a "Eternal Father" in tribute to Fi'lk. Generally he carries a number of electronic gadgets and few actual weapons.

Personality

Rek was often known to be cocky, he would never back down from a situation where he had no idea what he was doing. Some noted this behavior as brave, others as extremely foolish and only done to save face. Characteristically Rek developed a bad temper and anger issues towards his middle years almost as if carried over from his biological father, but his sense of logic and reason typically would keep it reasonable. Typically Rek is more at home at a workbench than rushing a room blaster ablaze, but he is more than capable of dealing with a straight out fight. He enjoys discussions and debates on galactic affairs with those of equal interest. More than once this has lead to heated debates that usually end with the other badly injured or in rare cases of bad temper even dead.

Behind the scenes

  • Rek Polus was originally a Neo-Crusader in an unfinished fan-fic story during the Mandalorian Wars. Their personalities and roles are completely different.
  • The armor for Rek was originally inspired by Jodo Kast.
  • If you look closely running through the panel on the left chest piece is a bar like indentation next to the silver stripe. Concepts and drawings of Fi'lk Polus colorings of Rek's armor has a yellow or gold stripe there, this indentation was left to show the armor was the same but repainted.
  • A key feature to Rek's helmet is a tear line on the left side that is burned in. This is the result of an explosion during his first hunt that sprayed acid from the visor line down to the check.
  • The side of Rek's helmet says "Eternal Father" in Mando'a.
