Biography

Early years ( 52 BBY - 47BBY )

Talgin and his wife Da’reen were among those that had chosen to follow the old warrior ways when the New Mandalorians arose. The Firrerreo couple had migrated to Mandalor, and then Concordia, around 200 BBY. They wished to join the clans and learn the ways of the Mandalorian warrior, despite the pacifist ways of the New Mandalorians. They’d seen the way life worked in the galaxy at large and knew a society must have warriors and be willing to fight to defend itself in order to survive. Talgin and Da’reen trained for many years and became full members of their clan in 167 BBY. They served as hired soldiers for years to earn a living and acquire the experience and equipment they’d need for long lives as mercenaries. With the rise of Jaster Mereel to Mand’alor in 60 BBY, he enacted reforms encouraging his fellow mandalorians to seek work as honorable, highly paid mercenaries and soldiers, which Talgin and Da’reen had been doing for many years.

Once they decided to have a child, Talgin and Da’reen resettled on Concordia where Talgin took to training young warriors in combat and tactics during the Mandalorian Civil War. Khor was born in the year 52 BBY, the year of Jaster Mereel’s death and Jango Fett’s rise to leader as Mand’alor. Talgin returned to undertaking missions again shortly after his son’s birth, as did Da’reen a few years later. Khor was often left in the care of other clan members when one or both of his parents were off on missions. As a result, he was raised on a variety of tales about past Mandalorian glories. As a Firrerreo, he grew at a similar rate to the human children among his clan, but as he neared adulthood, his rate of aging would seem to grow to a stop.

Childhood ( 47 BBY – 35 BBY )

The young Firrerreo Mandalorian began his early training with enthusiasm. Physical exercise, team competitions, and stamina building combined with intellectual, tactical, and technical learning to fill Khor’s childhood and adolescence. He trained in myriad blaster weapons, slug throwers, and melee weapons. Determined to be as self-reliant as possible, he also trained and qualified in speeder, star fighter, and transport piloting and gunnery, as well as a general knowledge of vehicle and weapon repair. To round out his education, Khor also studied galactic history, cultures of the galaxy, systems of the galaxy, and military history.

Khor proved extremely capable at stealth maneuvers (aided by his ability to see in the ultraviolet spectrum), close quarters combat, and long range sniping. His technical and security skills improved to the point that during mock battles between teams of Mandalorian youths, he would often infiltrate the opposing team’s command center and take out the team’s leaders. He sought out and attained training from his clan’s assassin and sniper brigades. His Firrerreo heritage allowed him to rapidly heal most injuries that would disable his team mates and made him a favorite when teams were chosen.

Adulthood ( 35 BBY - ? )

Talgin, Khor’s father, was among the Cuy'val Dar, those recruited by Jango Fett to train the clones forming the Grand Army of the Republic on Kamino. Talgin brought this same training back to his son, teaching Khor some of the most modern techniques and outfitting his son with the best weapons of the clone army. He also aided Khor in the construction of his own beskar armor, allowing his son to choose his own style.

Khor accompanied his parents on multiple missions for various clients, and more than a few secretive missions for the Republic when the price was right. The young mandalorian’s parents did not agree with the pacifist views held by the Confederacy of Independent Systems, but neither did they crave another civil war and so did not ascribe to the views of the Death Watch. The trio, both together and separately took to bounty hunting and mercenary work rather than turn pacifist or commit fully to the Army of the Republic or side with the Separatists. All sides were willing to pay handsomely, so why cut off a potential customer.

As the Republic became the Galactic Empire under Palpatine, Khor took on more and more missions as mercenary and bounties independent of his parents. During these missions, Khor began accumulating person wealth and a great collection of weapons and gear. He left several caches scattered among the worlds he’d visited, in both civilized areas as well as wilderness locals. As his reputation grew, Khor continually kept in mind the need to balance his activities among the various factions. He tried to keep aware of the direction of the winds of allegiance as Mandalorian loyalty swung from Republic to Confederacy, to Empire, and back again as mandated by Mandalorian leadership. Eventually his loyalty came to be placed solely with his current employer, whoever that might be at the time, though he always bore strong loyalty his Mandalorian heritage.

As years passed and the Galactic Empire continued to grow and spread, Khor continued to successfully complete mission after mission as part of various mercenary units and the number of bounties he claimed continued to climb, making him a popular and much sought hunter. He was offered memberships in multiple Hunters’ Guilds, but refused each, preferring to remain an independent hunter and take on only the contracts he chose. In the early years of the Empire, Khor acquired his current starship, a new Ghtroc 720 light freighter, which he heavily modified soon after. In addition to increased weaponry, he had military grade shields and hull plating installed, upgraded the hyperdrive, the back-up hyperdrive, and sub-light engines, and converted some of the cargo and crew space to holding cells, including a beskar cell he’d acquired during the time of the Jedi Purge. The ship, renamed Defiler, has many other modifications, including multiple transponders, and holds both an armored and heavily modified speeder, and swoop. The high security armory has a multitude of weapons and spare armor parts. Numerous repair and security droids assist with ship functions and security.

Physical Appearance

Like most of the Firrerreo people, Khor is tall and athletically thin. He is extremely long lived, appearing to be a human in his mid to late 30’s though he is closer to 70 with the vast majority of his life still ahead of him. He possesses an odd trait, his people are notable as near human, identified by their nictitating eye membranes and two tone hair, but Khor’s dual hair tones are less notable: white being lightly intersperse with his shoulder length brown hair. The give away to his heritage is in his customary goatee, which is split nearly in half – ½ brown and ½ white. His eyes also tend to change color with is mood or reflect his garments, changing between blue, gray, and green…and sometimes red if he anticipates battle.

Personality

Khor Mariik can be an easy going and loyal companion to his fellow mandalorians and the few none mandalorians that have proven themselves loyal in return. He can also, at times, become cold and unfeeling, focused and obsessed upon completion of his mission or hunt. He has been known to go to extreme lengths to aid or rescue loyal companions, and obsessively hunt to destruction those that have betrayed him. He has a sarcastic wit and can be quick to exchange jibes with those around him, jibes that can, at times, be creepy or just downright scary.

Weapons

Khor’s primary weapon is a heavily modified T-21 light repeating blaster rifle. In repeating mode its range is the normal 300 meters. When set to sniper mode with the barrel extension and it's additional focusing coils, the bolt gets over charged, increasing its range and damage capacity by using 3 times the normal charge and concentrating the blaster gas. By holding the trigger at half pull for 10 seconds, the weapon’s range increases to 1500 meters. At up to 1000 meters it can puncture speeder level armor. Penetration drops from 1000-1500 meters, only able to punch through most light personal armors, but still able to put a large dent into heavy personal armor. While this might not penetrate the armor for a kill, it has the potential to break the target’s neck with a successful head shot. Its shot capacity has been increased to 100 shots per pack while in normal, repeating mode. The scope of this weapon can be Scomp-linked to his visor for excellent targeting, even at 1500 meters and beyond.

For a sidearm, Khor carries a pair of modified Blastech SE-14r repeating blaster pistols. These weapons are also link to his helmet range finder and visor allowing him to target both independently and accurately, even when firing in opposite directions.

He often carries a number of various explosives, from detonite, to thermal detonators, to fragmentation, concussion, and stun grenades, to EMP or Ion (droid popper) grenades. His explosive armament is tailored to each mission, but often contains several varieties.

Behind the scenes

Khor is known in the mundane world as Rich. As with most of us that were around at that time, I’ve been a Star Wars fan since it first came out, with a few years of denial when the prequels were first released. I’m over that now and back in the swing of it. I’m an avid gamer (D&D and Star Wars West End Games RPG, with a touch of Role Master and some Battle Tech) and avid fan of Sci-fi, fantasy, and horror. I enjoy renn faires and SCA events when not at cons as a mando and am enjoying making my own props and learning more with each attempt.

I have a BA in History and Minor in Anthropology, but currently work as a union electrician. I am an accomplished weaver of chainmaille and skilled bladesmith with my own forges, though I don’t get to them as much as I’d like, and also some small skill at leather working.

Found the club in December of 2011 and promptly started looking through old toys, props, and collectibles to find elements to incorporate into my 1st kit. With some great advice from a few friends in the Mercs and some great tutorials and WIPs, I took my app pics on June 3 and became official member #599 on June 6, 2012.
