Posting Pictures

Posting pictures is fairly easy. There are two ways it can be done. The first is the picture by itself, with no boxes or comments around it. The second is with a small box around it and with a comment description below it. IMPORTANT! Image files MUST have a unique file name or they may end up overriding others' files. If you want to upload a weapon image, name it "taglar_weapon.jpg" instead of just "weapon.jpg".

Borderless Image

Howto testimage.jpg

To post a picture with a borderless image, you simply use the Image:filename.jpg with the surrounding [[ ]] brackets. The image will produce onto the page in the exact dimensions that you upload, so be careful. If you upload a large image, it will display a large image. Most images look best when uploaded under 250-300 pixels wide. See example to the left.

To format the image on the page from left to right, simply add |left or |right after the image filename inside the brackets. The | acts as a divider between the two codes. The image to the left was displayed by typing "Image:howto_testimage.jpg|left" inside the [[ ]] brackets.

Keep in mind that the size of your image will matter depending on how much text is placed next to it. If the image is large and there is not enough text, it may overflow into another section. Keep your images to a usable size. Also, unfortunately auto-image resizing is currently still not working. A small image that is clicked will only show the small image again.

Bordered Image

A bordered image with comment below

To post a picture with a border and comment, you simply use the Image:filename.jpg with the surrounding [[ ]] brackets, but afterwards you need to add the commands |thumb and |XXXpx with "XXX" representing the width of the image in pixels. The image will produce onto the page in the exact dimensions that you upload, so be careful. If you upload a large image, it will display a large image. Most images look best when uploaded under 250-300 pixels wide. See example to the left.

The image to the left is 250 pixels in width, this can be determined by right clicking the image and selecting "properties". The "XXX" will ALWAYS need to match the pixel width or else this option will not work. To format the image on the page from left to right, simply add |left or |right after the image filename inside the brackets. The | acts as a divider between the two codes. To add the comment below your image, simply add another | divider and add your comment inside the bracket. The image to the left was displayed by typing "Image:howto_testimage.jpg|thumb|250px|left|A bordered image with comment below" inside the [[ ]] brackets.

Keep in mind that the size of your image will matter depending on how much text is placed next to it. If the image is large and there is not enough text, it may overflow into another section. Keep your images to a usable size. Also, unfortunately auto-image resizing is currently still not working. A small image that is clicked will only show the small image again.

UPDATE:

As of 9/27/2010, it has been discovered that the |170px| section of the image code no longer works. You MUST upload your image at the correct size you are wanting for your page. Please keep all images at a reasonable size. Any images found to be oversize may be taken down and/or resized by the administration team to help keep the flow of the site.

Uploading The Image

Once you have determined which code you will be using and when you have saved it, you will see that your page has an image box like shown above. The image hasn't been uploaded to the wiki yet. To remedy this, simply click the text and you will be taken to an upload page. Browse for the file you want to upload on your computer, then click upload.

If you are changing an image, you can do the same thing by clicking the old image, then clicking "upload a new version". You will be again taken to the upload page where you can select a new version. You will then get a warning making sure you want to override the original photo.

Posting Links

There are three types of links that you can post inside the wiki. The first is a basic off-site link. The second being an internal link to another article here. The third being an off-site link to the Star Wars Wikia.

Off-site Link

An off-site link can simply be created by using a single set of brackets [ ] and pasting the link within or just pasting the link direct to your wiki. If you leave one space at the end of the link and add alternative text, you can create a link within a text like so: Mandalorian Mercs. The link to http://www.mandalorianmercs.com is hidden within the words Mandalorian Mercs. It is produced by typing "http://www.mandalorianmercs.com Mandalorian Mercs" within the [ ] brackets.

Internal Link

An internal link can simply be created by using the double brackets [[ ]] and typing the exact name of the article with full capitalization. A link to Rancor Clan can simply be created by typing "Rancor Clan" within the [[ ]] brackets. This will allow you to link to any other article within the Mercs Wiki.

Star Wars Wikia Link

A link to the off-site Star Wars Wikia can be created more simply than a typical off-site link. This can be done by typing an article name within brackets, preceeded by "starwars:". So a link to Lord Vader can be created by simply typing "starwars:Lord Vader|Lord Vader" within [[ ]] brackets. The second "Lord Vader" is to mask the link behind the words Lord Vader so the link does not show. These links will take you straight to the Star Wars Wikia entry on that word.
