Female KIT (i need help)
« on: Jul 15, 2012, 04:35 AM »
So I've been looking for a female template, but.... are there ANY one this site.. I may not have looked hard enough? Anyway, I'm a teenage girl who is currently "sprouting" like a weed -as many would say. My friend, Blackwraith, has offered to help me with my Mando armor, but i need some help. I extremely athletic so i have a guy's built. My shoulders are extremely broad and I buff... My FIT extremely fit.
B) what are the materials that I should use? Blackwraith and other members told me that I should use sintra since it is easy to use
C) Breast armor. I would like my armor to be more of a Boba Fett armor, but my chest.. if ya ladies know... hehehe... gets pressed down and it hurts.... :P
D) What do we wear INSIDE our armor. I don't exactly want to wear METAL over BARE skin.. since it wouldn't be exactly comfortable.
E) Since I have eczema, would it be WISE it make MANDO armor? I mean.. putting GOLD BOND on my folds EVERY time I wear my armor doesn't seem like a FUN thing to do.
F) Are we allowed to buy a Jango fett full helmet then paint over it? Or do we NEED to build one from scratch.
G) Are we allowed to use our sports pad for molds? like.. but sintra over it, then shape it to look like a shin guard?
H) where are the female templates?
I) thank you for reading!

I want to make this armor so it can be an official armor, but I'm currently too young. What about Noe-crusader armor, can we make those?

P.S. Weapons, do we HAVE to make our own weapons or can we buy them?
Thank you,

Alit,
Atina Skirata/Samantha Zaron

I'm overweight myself...

Anyhoo, to answer your questions.

B) You can use any material really as long as it is a hard wearing material that follows the contour of your body, many people use sintra (aka foamex) as it bends easily with the heat, others use PVC bins as a cheap option, if you want to go that route, cardboard with a fiberglass backing will get some good effects and finally, if you have the time, money and patience you can go for metal plates. There's no "should" in making your kit, there is only practical to you and your budget.

C) You're going to have to template it and stick darts in, a lot of people use the parcel tape method which grabs the contour of your body and then you can use the Wizard of flight templates to put the boba plates onto the "cast" of your body frame. You would need to fiberglass afterwards though.

D) As the armour is flight suit, vest and plates, where the plates are mostly attached to the vest, there is little chance of the plates touching skin. I however wear a t-shirt and shorts under my kit.

E) I have mild eczema, the only thing you have to worry about is sweat.

F) You can paint your helmet however you like.

G) As long as your pad doesn't look like a sports pad and you don't use elastic as a method, then disguising it is fine.

H) I don't think there are any, I've answered how most people have done it in question C :)

No, you don't have to use fibreglass, that all depends on what method you use. If you want to use the Fett style plates and want to go down the Foamex route, try making the plates a liitle bigger. That way when you come to bend them they still retain the length but have the bend so they dont push down and hurt you. There are some big girls here who have used the Fett plates, so you could always ask for their advice too ;) .

This is where you will find the most help for what you need. Try to show up and see what the other people in your clan are doing first hand. We have a few other females as well so you can ask them for tips related to female armor.

http://mercs.firespray.net/forum/index.php?topic=19763.0;topicseen    this guy does great stuff although he said he was gunna make female chest plates, he has yet too but its 172.50 for ALL the armor parts, all you'd need then is a helmet $150 for a good 1, flightsuit $40-$50, boots $30-40 (flightsuit and boots can be found at an army surplus), then various belts holsters and blasters and a vest and velcro(sticky back for plates sew-on for vest) to put your armor on and your good.

Well if you're a good creative shopper willing to put in some time to look you can get some parts cheaper... Like i use a separate top and pants for my flight suit for fit issues ( like so it DOES fit). SOOOOOOOOO many different parts can be scrounged at goodwill and other thrift stores to save money....
This goes for fabric and patterns too.

If you're concerned with plate sizes fitting, do tests out of scrounged cardboard.

Sintra is another option if you want to avoid fiberglass.  Officially you don't need fancy tools to make it work. Just a sharp box cutter, gloves and an oven.  My plates are a modified Boba Fett style as well and I too have a larger chest and am not tiny period.

If sweating is a worry try to find underarmor or another wicking material to wear under the rest of kit, or for your flight suit if they look right. ( These too can be found cheap at thrift stores!)

As for weapons... you can buy them... BUT (!) they need to look In universe and not look like a toy. So unless you're getting a finished blaster from an OM, Odds are you will need to at the very least do a paint job on the blaster.

Don't be afraid to experiment and have fun with this. Get creative if the urge strikes. Post pics and we're happy to tell you what we think. And since you're still a verd'ika... you have plenty of time to get your kit where you love it.

Remember the golden rule of costuming and my personal mantra. "You can have it good, cheap or fast. Pick two."

I actually ran into the same problem myself, and because of it, I made my own templates from the Jango ones that are perfect for women
