knee attaching need help
« on: Jul 12, 2012, 03:19 PM »
I have a set of boba style knees from Redkrytdragon I plan to use elastic and snaps and threading the elastic through my jumpsuit to meet requirements, I am for sure puting a snap in the middle of the knees to keep the flush, as instructed by a fellow mando, i'm using loctite to do so, if anyone could provide pics those of you who used snaps and elastic it be a great help, because idk how many snaps to use or if i put them in both sides or just 1 etc. etc. any advice would be apprieciated thanks ;D

What I did on for my knees was gorilla glue the inside end of the elastic strap to the inside knee wing.  That means for the left knee you would glue it to the inside of the right wing, and on the right knee you'd glue it to the inside of the left wing.

As for snaps, I put 2 male snaps on the outside wing of my knees...about half an inch apart.  This way if one comes off while trooping, you have a back-up you can use.  You only need 1 female snap on the outside end of the elastic strap.

I believe the knee pads are the one thing you are allowed to have elastic on the outside of your flight suit with so you don't have to thread it through the suit legs.

I took my knee, (custom) and glued it to a foam knee pad. I plan to trim off the extra. but it works great. But i dont know how legal it is.

ok not to sound dumb but did you sew the female snap to the elastic, or was all this done with gorilla glue?

Usually you use the snap post to secure to any fabric, also I would reccomend using velcro to maintain positioning, the first time you kneel on that snap you WILL regret it.

Ok,, I feel like a tool     in that case, snaps should work fine   :). Also elastic straps are fine on knee placement. Just try to get the color as close to your flight suit as possible.
