Little Warrior International: Board of Directors meeting results, FY 2012.

(1/4) > >>

Mandalore the Uniter:
As funding for the Mandalorian Mercs is now handled primarily by Little Warrior International, and most of that funding comes directly from the work and donations of Mandalorian Mercs members, it is only fair that the members (both Official, Honorary, and Forum) be privy to what results from Board of Directors meetings.

Unlike the Command Council of Mercs the Board of Directors for LWI is not directly made up of Mercs officers, however it is made up of Official Mercs members who are knowledgeable in fields that benefit the charity and corporate aspects of LWI.

Board meetings happen after the beginning and before the end of the corporate fiscal year (FY) in November.  The purpose of these meetings are to set directives for the LWI sponsored charity aspect of Mercs for the year, as well as allocate the yearly operational budget for Mercs and the Verd'ika Fund.

Current Board members:
Executive Chairman/President - Tom Hutchens
Vice-President - Susan Easter
Secretary/Treasurer - Elisha Hutchens
Director of Public Relations - Todd Lacey
Director of New Media - Ian Lusk

Decisions adopted by the Board of Directors during FY 2012:

1. Revamp of mission statement--changes made to be more specific about the scope and efforts of LWI
The mission of Little Warrior International is to raise money for local community-based 501c3 charity organizations which provide relief, comfort, and hope to children who are sick, underprivileged, or otherwise in need. Additionally, LWI provides direct financial assistance or goods to families in immediate distress and underprivileged children during the holiday season

2. Discussion about the possibility of offering a scholarship to Spacecamp (Huntsville, AL); cost is approx $900 per person.
We will be working towards offering this scholarship to children starting in FY 2013.

3. Discussion of "initiatives" or current focus for LWI; childhood hunger and anti-bullying were proposed; board agreed to go with childhood hunger for its first initiative.
Mercs will be working with food banks and global food donation charities in an effort to help stamp out childhood hunger in every country that carries the banner of Mandalorian Mercs members.

4. Intiatives will run for two years instead of the originally proposed one year.
This will ensure that Mandalorian Mercs can put all it's energy behind an initiative.

5. Ian is working on the logo and website for LWI; board agreed to keep site simple and informative; Verdika Fund logo cannot be used for LWI, but a similar logo would be acceptable.
The Verd'ika Fund logo will still be used as the unofficial "bridge" between Mercs and LWI corporate.

6. Information and updates about LWI will be driven through social media outlets as well.
LWI website and Facebook pages will be available in the coming months.

7. Perks for Mercs clans who help with LWI--possible 'thank yous' include patches, pins, banners, etc
Clans/Squads who participate in LWI's current charity initiative will be rewarded, as well as clans/squads who raise money for LWI through Bounty Hunts or similar events.  We will also award Clans/Squads who participate in accumulated charity work with other charities throughout the year.

8. Next board meeting tentatively planned for end-of-fiscal-year (November);  will discuss the year's financials at this point as necessitated by IRS and 501c3 requirements.
Self explanatory.

Kaden'Dha Runi:
Novall,

So I have some questions:

If a clan wants to support the LWI initiative by trooping and helping out with a food drive in our local community, what, if anything, should we do to get the LWI involved?  Do we need to get the LWI involved?  Should we pass on any contact information we gather concerning local food drive charities?  Finally, if we, the local clan, work to start a food drive, do we turn the food collected over to a local food bank, and if so, how does the LWI fit into that scenario?

Sorry about all the questions.  Since becoming a Mercs member, I have used my kit to help raise money at a lot of charity events.  Several "Relay for Life" events, a couple of other American Cancer Society events, and visiting a couple child health car facilities.  I feel strongly about doing this work and I want help in the proper way.

Thanks for your input.

Before 2013, we are going to have some LWI promotional material that Clans/Squads who undertake events pertaining to the LWI charity initiatives will be able to put out and use to illustraite that Mercs is fulfilling a need through it's charity wing.   For local events, that's probably as involved as LWI needs to be.  Your there raising awareness and encouraging food donations for the local charity that needs it.

If you are attending drives for local food banks, then you would want to make sure to keep track of how many drives you or your clan/squad is attending so you can forward that information with your monthly clan/squad activity reports as well.  This way it can be forwarded to LWI and awards can go out accordingly.

We will have a press-kit/informational packet of sorts that you can give to your local food bank that details what LWI is, why the Mercs are working with them, and what the goal of our 2013-2015 initiative is.  There will be contact info on the press kit in the event the local charity would like to contact LWI directly.

Yes, you would turn the food collected over to the local food bank of the Clan/Squad's choice.  You can include an LWI press kit/informational packet with the donated food so they know where it comes from.

Hope that answers your questions.  :)

Kaden'Dha Runi:
Thanks, Novall.  I will await the press kit information, and thanks, again.  I am eager to help more with such a worthwhile charity.

How much money is currently in the LWI?
