Getting dirty

(1/1)

Byloc Phosmont:
Finally finally FINALLY I'm adding dirt, grime and carbon scoring to my armor and weapons. I've been surfing through the forum and have noticed that when I compare my mando to others, mine is lacking in something. It's lacking realism. Star Wars is a "used universe," almost everything looks old and broken in. I look relatively polished. Time to fix that.

Only had a few hours today to mess around, I've got a wedding to shoot at 3:30. But here's what I was able to get done. I tried to limit the glare from the sun so it didn't wash out my gear in the pictures, it might be a little too reflective still, but that's ok.

Before and after pics.

Pay attention to the shoulders.

Going to do this to all my armor and then my soft parts.

I did the wet charcoal and wet dirt dribbling trick to weather it. I wiped some dirty oil around the grip as well. Found something rusty and added a little tinge of orange by wiping my rust covered fingers on a few spots. And then used black spray paint about 1ft away from the tip of my gun and the ingained "vent thing" on the back.

note. I didn't mean to write everything italicized. I did mean to make this bold though

Byloc Phosmont:
Just an update. I'm leaving plenty of time between paint coats so I'll be 100% sure the paint will have a chance to dry correctly (no cracking this time, no splintering or flaking.) Taking off the old paint is such a pain in the shebs. Ugh. But I've gotten it off all the plates.

I've put down a layer of primer, then metallic silver, then lacquered black. In a day or two I'll scratch up the paint and add grime and seal it all together with a clear top coat. Hopefully I'll have everything put back together for the Relay for Life event on friday.

If anyone has some cool weathering tips, I'd be very happy to hear them!

I'm going to give you a link of how I did my entire kit, because I typed it out in EXTREME detail.

That's how i did everything, and I'm nothing less than pleased with how it turned out. Feel free to ask questions.
