Question regarding vest making
« on: May 31, 2012, 11:41 PM »
I have no sewing experiance, but I do have sewing machine. My first vest was an amatuer make with lots of uneven sides without the help of a sewing machine....With a back zipper (Yes, it is agonizing to put on, lol)

When I make my next vest, I have decided it will attatch on the sides. What is the best method? Velcro? Lacing? What would be my best option, regarding CRLS? I'm actually gaining a bit of weight, and my old vest is very difficult to get on without busting a seam, so I'm looking for something that is easily adjustable so I'm not destroying my vest in the process. The material i'm dealing with is Vinyl.

You can fasten it any way you want. I for one use velcro. If you use a zip though, you must have a lip that covers it as no visible zippers are allowed on the vest.  ;)

Mine's ungodly complicated, but involves buttons, snaps, and velcro.  You should see the barve stripped of its plates.  It's a fancy piece of work, courtesy of my wife.

Mine has a single zip down the left side with the front panel overlapping it. It's then also got a single snap at the top of the zip so it doesn't accidentally flap open and show the zip.

I found a vest at goodwill that fit me well enough, cut it up the sides, and used it as a pattern, then laced up the sides.

Tried to get my husband to let me make his lace up the back, but he just kinda wanted it done so it doesn't actually fasten at all. Somehow, I managed to make it so he could just pull it over his head but not look like it's big on him. Kinda a pain to actually get OFF of him, but it's been possible so far lol

I made a vest a couple of years ago with velcro straps on the sides (annoying when i stopped working out and gained a little weight), but I loved the shabla thing for one feature... the left Shoulder was connected in front with velco so it never had to go over my head.
