Return of the Skull King [Project: REBIRTH]
Dar Kyram:
So I've been debating on putting this up, because I've wanted to keep this top secret and surprise everyone when finished. But I've decided I'm finally making some headway and need to go ahead and put this out, and get people's reactions.
Formerly known as Project: REBIRTH, I've been working on this for some time now.
It all began back in Afghanistan, I started with some pre-production sketches with an idea that I finally decided to put together. I'd been wanting to build Dar's alternate armor, what he wears as the Skull King, but had no idea what it would look like. All I knew is I wanted it to look supreme and regal. I wanted it to sort of bridge the gap between modern era and Legacy era armors. And I wanted to go back to my original ideas, waaaaaaaay long ago, and build a Cade Skywalker inspired armor.
So without further ado, here is my progress thus far:
Here are some of the production notes I doodled in Afghanistan.
Once returning home, I got the Juggernaut helmet. I love it. Its still modern, yet it blends that Legacy V-visor look...which I can't stomach, but it works in this helmet. Plus, the viability is outstanding. I'm still working on this one. I'm close to ready for the first coat of primer, just got a few holes and things to fill in. I'll post more of it when I take some more.
The cape. This is the stitching I used. I've never sewn before, and crushed velvet material that my cape is made out of is NOT easy to sew on. I lucked out and found the exact same material in red, which I cut the symbol out and laid out on the cape.
Once finished, I had a little help getting the collar and trim pleated and hemmed back together... Once finished, here is a test drape. I'm wearing the base of my chest armor, which you can't see, but it does give an idea of how it flows over the shoulders. Once the shoulders are done on my armor, though, it will have a different look as you'll see in some following pictures. I'm not entirely happy with how low the symbol is... but nothing I can do about it now. I only can justify it by the fact that being lower, the symbol isn't as effected by the collar's pleating, there for more clearly visible in shape. But that big black space towards the top does bug me....
Yesterday, I picked up a sheet of styrene that I'll be using for my armor plates. Nope, I'm not doing trash can again this time! While I was there, I picked up some card board to make my plate's templates out of. So yesterday afternoon I took some time to cut out my "mock up" templates, to give myself an idea of what it will look like. Not entirely perfect, but its starting to get the shape. I'll likely double the shoulder bells, to give it a scalloped appearance.
Test shot of the cape draped of the armor with the mock up shoulders. Plus my preview of the clasp buttons and chains I plan on attaching.
So that's where I am! End result, you will not see the carrier vest at all. I'll have the Cade inspired armor that I longed for yeeeaaars ago that I couldn't have because Legacy hadn't yet revealed the Mandalorians yet. Its semi-slow going, due to the fact I'm living in barracks, so I can only do so much at a time, and some things can't be worked on here in the B's.
Niabi:
Liking it vod ;D looking forward to this one very much ;)
Calo Ordoa:
SCHWEET!! I really like the way your first kit came out, so this one should be dozens of times better! ;D
Kel T Skirata:

Dar Kyram:
Thanks everyone! Glad to have the support already. :)
And Kel, yeah, it'll be a bit off. But don't think my ComMando is gone and retired! Soon as I'm done with the Skull King armor, I'm going back to my Kyram armor and kicking it into Ver. 2.0.
