Drak's RKD Gauntlet Mod WIP (Completed) 3/22/13
« on: May 26, 2012, 06:00 AM »
Okay pretty much the title explains it all. This coming Friday I am doing the unthinkable (to me at least) I'm sanding down my entire kit to begin repainting it and upgrading it. I want to have every aspect of my kit to the highest possible standards I can get it to by CVI and its status upgraded to heavy from medium. Maybe while I'm at it I'll even attempt to join the assault brigade.... *sniff*.... Maybe..... But.... Before any of that can happen I need to first begin upgrades.

One of the first that shall take place are upgrading my currently smooth gauntlets to weapons platforms. To do this (after I sand them down of course) the wonderful redkraytdragon of these boards has allowed me to purchase some of his gauntlet... pieces.

The plan is to convert both gauntlets to flame thrower and missile platforms with a "Fett" look while still keeping my characters, I guess the term to describe it is "spiked back" look. These will require quite a bit of work to get them to:
1) Match....

and

2) Look nice :D

Anyway enough of this jib jab. Here are some mock up pictures of the RKD gaunt pieces taped on to the current clam shells to get a general idea of how they'll turn out.

Again updates will come after this coming Friday and the completion of the last troop I've dedicated Drak's armor to. Once the kit is free and I can destroy it without mercy to rebuild it again, then updates will begin. Other than that, thanks for your time and if you wish to leave C&C feel free to.

:o N...no. You sand down Tiger?!?!

:P Looking good for a start. I'm interested in how your going to make those match up. And it kinda threw me to see the symmetrical look going on there. I think it's going to look good when it's done!

That's going to look so cool!!  I like how you're adapting your lower shells to the RKD uppers.  Looking forward to how they turn out!  Don't catch your whiskers on fire  ;D

I was about to say "the two keypads & flamethrowers are going to make it impossive to use your hands" lol.  But since you slid the keypads further back on the lowers, it won't get in the way of hand movement - so great move there! :)  Sliding it back may interfere with the elbow though.

They look great, just want to share in my experiences building RKD's :)  Redkrayt also sells some plastic greeblies, such as darts, the keypad, etc.  If you decide to use the keypad, enamel spray paints will "erase" the lettering on the keys - they're simply too thick.  The Hinge / Magnet method he uses in his tutorial is fantastic too! :)  I used that, but with standard Hobby Lobby 1/2" high power magnets and no keyslots.

As am I, Squirrel. I recently got mine in the mail, and I wanna see how others are doing theirs before I get into the nitty-gritty of sanding everything down and making it Cordo-sized.

Wow that's more comments than I was expecting. By all of the positive feedback I guess dual flamethrowers gets a giant thumbs up. Well I hope I can meet the expectations set ahead of me. Thanks for the tips Jark'osa, but I didn't buy the resin pieces. I have other ideas that I went with that were more cost effective for me on the count that I have a good bit to go before I got my new steady paycheck in. I gotta get done with my orientation and get my hours set in.

To address your concerns on my elbow joint mobility, the gauntlets wont interfere with them at all. The current clamshells fit my fore arms perfect so that I can bend my arms etc. and the modded pieces will of course be built in to match the current length etc. etc.

As for the paint, I'm still trying to decide on how I'm going to do that on these pieces especially since the attachments do provide such an aesthetically different look than my originals. Also the armor I plan to keep pretty much the same concept but I do want to change it up some. We'll see how that idea goes. But for now I can't wait to finish these and see how they turn out.
