Flamethrower hose material?
« on: Apr 29, 2012, 05:19 AM »
Hello all, working on my gauntlets and am curious as to what material you guys use for the fuel hose. I will have two flamethrowers on the right gauntlet and am thinking running a coax cable from the rear of each to a splitter that I'll JBweld under the shoulder bell or under the backplate. Think this will work? Would under the shoulder or backplate work better? What do you guys use? Search function didn't help much so I'd appreciate any feedback, thanks!

Most people use braided PVC hose. Like this

And I don't know if you were planning on having a double sleeve flight suit, but if you do, just run the hose inside the top sleeve. If you don't have a double sleeve, either under the back plate or the shoulder plates would be fine.

I use the yellow stretchy medical tubing you can get from Lowe's.

I used the braided steel lines like you use to connect washing machines to the plumbing.

Thanks for the quick responses! I like the look of the steel lines but I'm gonna have 2 so that might be too heavy. Gonna go with this: http://www.amazon.com/pressure-Braided-Tubing-Clear-Reinforced/dp/B0073B7JY4/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1335720142&sr=8-10  ...thanks again guys, very much appreciated!

the steel lines aren't that heavy at all. I had two lines (four hoses) on my original gaunts, and never noticed the weight.

I see, I thought maybe the steel lines would tug on the shoulder too much, but it sounds like that won't be a problem. Cool.

I'm putting the braided metal lines on my gaunts and they are not bad at all.  just make sure you get them long enough to put up your sleeve.  I went with 30" hoses just to make sure myself.

Bazii, should be good, I ordered a 10 foot roll from Amazon for like $10. How did you connect it to the flamethrower and on the sleeve end? Thanks!

Well What I did sounds a little different that what you may end up doing as you have 10' of the hose.  My plan will be to connect one hose to the other hose under my vest so they secure each other.  I have 2 of the 30inch hoses so I should have enough slack to attach them with a small metal connector under the vest.

I bought hoses similar to the braided PVC ones, except they're black and more flexible.  They're glossy, but you can quickly remove the gloss by rubbing them with sandpaper.  I like these primarily because they're thinner & more flexible, since I have multiple hoses on the same arm.
