My First kit (updated page 2)
« on: Apr 25, 2012, 12:19 AM »
I had to increase the x-large template by 44% to get the size I need so I would like to see what the experts think of the sizing.  My bellybutton is about two inches below the belly plate, so I think I need an ab extender plate since I am so tall.  I could not put the collar template on because the hoodie got in the way, I dont have my actual vest yet so I used a snug fitting sweater for temporary.  Sorry for the crookedness, tried to tape it all on myself lol.

Sizing looks about right. Keep in mind on the ab extender... it may not be needed depending on how and where you place your belts.

I hadnt thought of that, I was originally planning on a smaller belt but after looking at some others i may go with a wider one.  Thanks

Not really a sizing issue now but I ran across another issue. The back plate templates from wof are not making sense. there are three parts but I don't see how they connect. I tried finding some pics or tips but had no luck.

There should be fine lines printed along them that help to piece the whole thing together, like a jigsaw.

You should have 6 pieces for the back plate. 3 for the right and 3 for the left. When putting them together from left to right it should be part 3, part 2, part 1.

Awesome.I see what I did now.I cut too much out of part 2 so it did not look right. Its difficult because of the increased size since each template prints across 3 or 4 pieces of paper which I then cut and tape together.

Thanks. Jaing you rock!

Yeah, the back plate right side i cut out too much on parts one and two, so I cut out my left sides and am reprinting the right sides.  I am almost done with the upper body templates.  Once I get them all cut I will take some pics before i transfer the templates to posterboard.

Thanks for the help guys.  I finally got them all cut out, it takes some time between work and parenting to get to work on them but here they are with a root beer 12 ounce can for size comparison on the back plate and a xbox 360 controller for the rest of the plates.  I am a big dude.

Hopefully I will be able to buy my flight suit soon but my wife just lost her job so I have to wait til she finds a new one probably.  I also found (and by "I" I mean my wife) a yard or so of vinyl silvery stuff which might make a good vest for my color scheme, only cost a buck so i am gonna attempt to make a lace up vest out of it.  Also i am going to have to segment the back plate as my material doesn't come large enough to cut the whole piece.  I am thinking that I will trim about a quarter inch off all the touching sides of the 6 backplate template pieces and make the back plate that way.  Should give me about a half inch gap one I get them on the flak vest.

Thanks, I would have been a lot longer getting this done without your help.

Glad we could help :)

I ended up segmenting my back plate for the same reason. I'll have to see if I can find those pictures....

Okay, so using a spray on adhesive I glued the templates to some posterboard sheets.

Tomorrow I will start cutting them out and then I can start transferring to my plastic.  Although I still need to do the backplate but am not sure how I want to segment it yet so I am waiting.

Ok, so it has been awhile since I was able to work on this but since my vest is with the seamstress and I am waiting for a little extra cash to buy my flight suit I will be trying to transfer these to my plastic.  I will be having a friend help me tape them on and I will post a pic to make sure the sizing is right.  I already had to cut down the collar so far and I may need to do the same with the thigh plates.  I will be segmenting the back plate simply so it will fit on my material since the size is limited by the size of the material I have.  I will post pics as soon as I can get my friend over to help with taping the templates on.
