Tassie's Kit
SillyTassie:
Soooo, I'm finally starting a thread on my armor, even though I've had it done for a while. But now I'm just making it a little nicer since I threw it together in about a week last year for Starfest.
Please bear with me on this since I am new to making my own thread. I promise I will do my best.
So the idea for my kit came from one of Hydra's concept art.
HELMET:
The helmet that I decided to get was an Assassin's after I saw Ronik's and liked it.
Yay! It's so pretty and new!
So if you don't know I work at a car shop and have a bunch of little tools at my disposal... some days.
I cut out the T-visor part of the helmet with a dremel. I was able to most of it this way. The rest (like the small crevasses one the sides and just the rest of what was left with dremel) I used sand paper and files.
Then came the painting. First I did some quick sanding all over the helmet where paint was going to be applied. I then laid down a base coat (2 layers) of Auto filler primer (gray). Then I laid down a silver layer. Then with the Colourless Art Masking Fluid (found at Micheals) I applied it to my armor with the end of a sharpie for battle damage. Then laid down my next color. Once the next layer was dry, I rubbed off the Masking Fluid. (Note: this is how I did all of my battle damage.)
I then very carefully started masking off with blue tape the pattern on the helmet. This took a while and a lot of patience. On the last few layers of paint I DID NOT rub the masking fluid off every time.
And after about 1 1/2 hours of painting, masking and dry time I was finally able to get the helmet finished.
Then for the T-Visor, I wanted mirror tinting. I used a plastic picture frame. I first applied the mirror tinting and let it sit for about an hour. Then after making a pattern from the helmet for the visor, I masked both sides of the picture frame completely and then drew down the pattern. Then we used cutting shears to cut out the visor. This was tricky because the plastic kept wanting to bend on itself, so two people were needed. After cut out, I carefully removed the tape. Then I used hot glue to attach the visor into the helmet.
After the visor cooled down and was in place, I cut out foam that was found at a hardware store and hot glued it into the helmet for padding. (Will post picture of inside later)
I recommend test fitting through out the process to test fit so you don't put in to much to where it doesn't fit right.
(NOTE: I do NOT recommend leaving your helmet in your car for a couple days in the summer. The tinting started to wrinkle and the hot glue stared to peel away from the helmet. Because of this I am re-doing my helmet visor and will be posting pictures later.)
Kel T Skirata:
Nice paint apps and top notch weathering, needs a touch of grime to kick it up another notch. Nice concept too ;)
Kiel'ani Cardas:
Awesome! I love all of Hydra's female concepts, so I'll be watching this one come to life for sure. (Excuse me while I go cry in a corner over the fact that I don't live in Colorado. This means that a) I'm not eligible to use any of her concepts, and b)... I don't live in Colorado.) :D
Jerek Darr:
VERY nice!!!!
Calo Ordoa:
