Female gauntlets for the petite
« on: May 07, 2012, 01:29 AM »
Hello,
I'm in the very slow process of taking apart and upgrading my kit.

My main issue is the gauntlets. I started off with just a piece of sintra formed around my arm but those were too dull for me, so I moved on to leather gaunts but I disliked the design and also felt they were too dull. My ideal dream gaunts are the Boba style ones, only problem is... I'm small. I'm a skinny, petite kind of Mando'ade. My wrists are something like 6in around. I figured that means I'd have to stuff a bunch of foam into Boba style gaunts if I got them and they'd end up looking silly. So I don't see that happening :(

I was wondering what peoples ideas were for those of us ladies who are small but dream of having the decked out gauntlets. And those that have already solved this problem, what did you do? Pictures would be awesome.
Help would be much appreciated! :)

When I did my wife's gaunts, I took the pepakura file and scaled it down to fit.

Do you have a tutorial? or some pictures of your wifes gaunts?

I've been planning out my beskare'gam and im running into the same problem Paikea is.

I have a step by step tutorial on building them.  They can be scaled by setting a smaller paper size and then scaling to fit. The program I use (linked in the tutorial) scales it automatically to the paper size.

If you don't want to do the cardboard/resin route, you can do what I did. I liked the right gauntlet design, but wanted something more sturdy. I used some very good locktite and a plastic "no parking" sign from home depot:
http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&productId=100212451&R=100212451
While I used the WizardOfFlight templates, you should be abel to use the pepakura files instead. Here is what the base came out looking like:

Just giving you smaller ladies the most options available, and with a heat gun, this can give more rounded edges as the plastic is comprable to 3mm sintra, but heats very fast.

I'll throw in my .02.  I'm a bigger male, but you could easily scale down what I'm going to do.  I'm going to take a plastic cup from a sporting event (like basketball, for example) and cut it in half.  Then I'm going to build two "tops" out of cardstock, and fiberglass/resin those.  I'll put hinges on one side of each half-cup, and some sort of fastener on the other, probably velcro or something.  Then I'm going to put on my greebs, etc, and paint.  Voila.  Hope that helps!
