question about gauntlets
« on: Mar 21, 2012, 11:39 PM »
alright are these good?

I already have these gauntlets, they where part of a older costume. they use a speed lace for easy on and off.

So i want to know if this is cool for approval. :)

They should be ok, according to the costume requirements.

Leather Bracers are allowed. What you have there looks very medieval in style and not very Starwarzy  looking. Personally i don't like seeing leather Bracers or wraps, it's the easy cheap way out and honestly they don't feel right for a Mandalorian kit. Plus it cheapens the whole look of your armour. I'm not saying don't use them for a base, because you can. But before you jump in Please look through the different gauntlet threads and finnished armours and just give it a bit more thought. And maybe i can convince you to make some proper gauntlets ;) .

I concur with the above.  A decent set of "proper" gauntlets will cost less (they're really not that hard to make, seriously), and look better.  Also, most of those mass production leather ones look like crap* on the kind of costume they're SUPPOSED to go with, how much worse will they look on a sci-fi costume?

* They're always used with other elements of costume that suggest nobility or at least wealthier merchant class, whereas simple leathers like that would only be used by the peasantry of the era.  If I never see a set of simple leathers combined with a doublet and hose again, it will be too soon.

Well though they where not cheap( comisdion from a custom leather goods maker) they fid work fine for my old group but I do agree my old out fit looked very medieval, I can show pucs if you guys want.

I was planning on modding them, adding a wrist rocket launcher, wrist blaster and what ever else was low drag and high speed. In the end using those as a base they still would look medieval, so considering that its frowned on I will go with my other plan, though I always like my costumes to be interchange-able :p

Pvc pipe of two different sizes smaller will be the lower portion and the upper the larger. The left will have a wrist rocket and built in blaster. The right will be clear of anything, maybe some low key buttons. I will use elastic bands to get a form fit to prevent 'floating' and make feel apart of me

Im trying to go a gear set of a medium armor level melee specialist/jetii hunter. So my right wrist mobility is important to me, I want to look good, but also feel like I can stage fight in the gear easily.

Im sure that is just some 'old' group mentality haunting me when it comes to gear planning :p

Its totaly up to you if you want to mod them, i think its a waste ! They look expensive and there are cheaper alternatives, have a look around at other bases for gaunts. There are lot's of different ways to build a set, plus RKD's gauntlets are affordable.

Heh, I made mine out of two plastic pitchers that I bought from Fred Meyer with pieces of the squarish gutters bolted/riveted on top. They look fine.
