Mai'jis Cavdinn kit (WIP)... pic heavy
« on: Apr 13, 2012, 04:23 PM »
First off I apologize if I did this wrong. Not so good at the puter thing.

I wanted to have my kit in one place so it would be easier to post and follow.

First are my test plates that I made so I could refine my cutting, painting, design, and weathering skills. Which I think I have down now. They are 3/16" ABS. I don't have my flak vest as of yet (it's complicated) so the plates are not shaped to my body. So after I get someone to help make the vest I will shape new plates.

Next is my 2 pc flight suit. It's made out of rip stop material so it's cooler in the summer. I am going to cover the zipper on the neck with the same rip stop material. The zippers you see on the forearms will be covered by grieves instead of gauntlets.

Now the boots. They are made by Rocky. They have a zipper on the side to make it easier to get on and off. The zipper will also be covered by spats or gaiters. As will the laces. I used the same plastic for the armor and used Loctite 2500 psi epoxy to glue them on. For the epoxy that oozed out a bit I used testors flat black to paint over it. Then a top coat of testors flat clear to help blend it in better.

For my kama I am going to use part of a real life trophy that I harvested about 3 years ago. It's Elk hide that for my character is from a Wookiee. It's clipped on an acu belt with Chicago screws and holster clips. I have two grenade and three ammo pouches made out of canvass. I need to get more of them to fill up the belt.

I have more but this should do it for now. Any thoughts good or bad all are welcome. Thanks.

Niabi

* THUD *

If those are test plates, you can send them to me for disposal after you get your real ones. What colors did you use and where did you get your flight suit pieces? I am already planing my second kit and I was going for a desert sniper and your colors are perfect. If you don't mind giving up your secrets.

Thanks Niabi.

Zolar thank you too.

As for the plates I'm going to get a picture frame made for them to use as a display item at events.   But thanks for the interest.  I know they would have a good home.  ;)

The 2pc "flight suit" I got from a place called Propper. They are a tactical gear supply company.  It's a bit on the spendy side but worth it.  The top had velcro on the arm but I took it off as well with the thigh pouches on the trousers.  Actually Tesla did the pouches.  The colors for the plates are Krylon primer grey Krylon saddle tan. The tan is a gloss but I took a red scotch brite pad and lightly went over it to dull it down a bit. The right bell is Testors olive drab and Testors light earth.  I also used Design Master bronze "233" for the metal part.  Each paint layer has 4 coats with 4 coats of Krylon flat clear between them and 5 coats of it over all of it.
