I ordered a red Inova Micro LED flashlight (1.5"x1"x0.3"), and I'm thinking about placing it on my helmet.  At the same time, I don't want to ruin the smooth/sleek look of the helmet.  I decided to forego the antenna for this reason.  I'd like your opinions.  Here are the 2 options:

Option 1)  Mount to Left Side & fix it in place.  Putty the rear section so it smooths into the ear cap.  This juts out a little, but not much.

Option 2)  No Light - leave it alone!!! :)

Here are the pics::

OPTION 1:

OPTION 2::

I'm hoping to drill the holes for the wires asap.  Thanks guys!! :)

Edit:  Removed one of the options (inside mounted light) because it was not bright enough to penetrate Shade 5 visor sufficiently.  It looked like a cheap, dim LED after going thru the visor.  Does not work well with Shade 3 either.

Edit 2:  Removed another option (right side mount) because the helmet will look too unbalanced.  Left side mount & no light are still options.

I like it with no light, ofcourse I cant picture exactly how you intend to mount/taper it in.

I plan on drilling a hole under the light for wires to feed into the helmet, then using Plastic Bonder to stick the light to the helmet.

See the little hole/tab on the back of the light?  That part doesn't contain any electronics, so I'll probably end up trimming that down and adding epoxy putty to blend it into the top of the visor trim (the part that bumps up above the ear cap).  I would have it follow the angle of the bump so that it blends in better.

I don't think I'll blend it on the bottom, top, or sides though.  I think it would make it look worse.

I may even sand the helmet down a little bit in the area of the light, so that I can recess it to be a little more flush & flat to the helmet.

Thanks for the feedback!

I like the idea of the light, it sounds like the way you intend to mount it there won't be much of a break up in those lines. So, go for it. It sounds like you have a solid plan, and it should look pretty cool.

I think the light works well there. It is low profile, and seems to melt into the rest of the helm so I that I I at least almost could not find it from the front.

This is true, but the light has momentary, toggle, and strobe settings.  I planned on using the momentary function  (the outside of the shell is a button you can press in).  I got red so I can use it as a scanner (I would have got a flat laser, but lasers at eye level = not a good idea lol).  My BH in SWTOR is a cyborg, so he scans things with his helmet.. it's kinda neat imo.

Thanks Kel!  I've accidently been doing it this way.  I was rushing to get to painting... but I hesitated & changed some things... now I'm finding more and more things to change lol.

BTW, how many other mandos keep a spreadsheet or list of things to do?  I've been keeping a spreadsheet of what's left to do (and the order to do it) for each item.  It helps me look at the big picture.  If I didn't have that, I'd probably be stressed or forget about things lol.
