My RKD Gaunts (WIP)
« on: Oct 01, 2012, 10:20 PM »
These will be my second pair of gaunts that I will be working on the first set after a while didn't like the way they were looking so I got some new ones which look alot better and better quality

these were the old ones that I really didn't care for..^^^^^

New ones below>>>>>

This is where they are at right now after trimming sanding priming and a coat of silver

Here is the rocket after initial paint and some weathering

What should I use to reinforce them since they are a little thin to give them more mass

Also  what should I use to hold them together ...some people I know use earth magnets others use piano hinges
which is the best

Comments / critiques welcome

The closure method for these has always been my biggest question.

Condar Ward made a Quick & Easy Gaunt Bases. (W.I.P.) but some of the pics aren't there anymore but there is still some good information on closure & appearance.

Hope this helps!   8)

Looking Good! RKD makes some sweet stuff!

My Gauntlets have an internal overlap panel Glued to the inside of the lower shell. It has Industrial Velcro on the side that is exposed when the gauntlet is open. when closed, it contacts the other velcro on the inside of the opposite (upper) shell and holds the pieces closed. The outer edge is held with ye old piano hinge.

I prefer to hinge my gauntlets and use removable pins to keep it closed. One of my clanmates recently went with the magnet closure using neodymium magnets, and he's not happy with how easy it can pop open if he's not careful.

well I actually riveted 1 side closed and will be using Velcro to hold the other side closed then all I need now is to do the weathering technique and paint them again then attach my greeblies... :P

Looking great so far Jin!
Brandon, you're too kind my friend (by the way everyone, EA makes really nice armor as well...just sayin)  ;)

As for closure/attachment methods, I went strictly magnets on mine if you so choose to go down that road. Here's a link to my thread on how I did it:

Good luck with whatever you decide

My RKD gaunts were riveted on both sides, easy to slip yer hand through. Never had a problem with them.
