Buurenar Murran's conceptual Blacksmith buy'ce
« on: Jan 28, 2012, 09:05 PM »
succuy, ner vode!

I know, it's been ages since I've last posted on here, but now I've finally come up with a decent set of concept sketches for a helmet. as I've been a blacksmith for a few years, I've been working through some ideas that may still fit regs, while being very individually obviously 'smithed. now, if anybody could tell me how to attach images on here without using Flikr, I would be greatly obliged, ner vode. since there is a lull in college classes, may as well take advantage of the open time and start construction.

okay, pardon the roughness of the sketches and the bluriness, these were taken from my phone.

with the dome piece being segmented into four pieces, and sandwiched together by two support strips, one on either side of the plate, would this be acceptable as, say, a blacksmith's helmet, or does it look too medieval-ish and rudimentary?

I just worry if all the fasteners on the outside would be an issue.  Generally it seems the goal is a cleaner look there, especially since I can't recall seeing anything like that in universe.

Other than that I don't see an issue.  I'm nobody important though, just my opinion.

well, I'm figuring that the rivets on the outside would give it a more rougher, hand-crafted look, but aye, it isn't exactly standard  protocol for mando buckets. with luck, I should be getting my hands on some aluminum sheeting, for a conceptual look

Hopefully someone from the app team will see this soon so we won't be speculating as much.  I feel like this could be a really cool kit.  People have used bolts and such for their armor, so I don't see why it wouldn't be allowed on your bucket, as well.

That's practically identical to my bucket.  As in the only difference is the rivets on the cheeks and that I have a hinged faceplate.

That's a cool concept!

The App Team's feedback will point you in the right direction, but IMHO it looks great. Besides, you can always consider going for an Early Era design, where rough pounded metal would be more the norm than the exception...

Cheers!

He contacted me via PM. Essentially my response was I can't say yes or no as I don't want to give false hopes or close the door in his face being a custom club. I explained that the overall quality of appearance and in universe fit when complete will be the deciding factors. If it's well done and fits in universe it should pass. If it's sloppy or looks too Medievil or Steampunk when done, it won't fly.

okay, apologies for the delay folks, I've been seriously busy with midterms for college, but anyhoo, updates, and a few more sketches!

anyhoo, through much experimentation, which I will not be posting the pics of up here, I have found that it is genuinely difficult to make a modern-era mando bucket with all its curves in the cheekplates and still have it all come together without an arc welder (which I do not have) or it being chock-full of rivets all over, making it a wee bit too medieval/chunky. this being said, I am still gonna scratch-smith a helmet on my forge, but instead of modern, I'm thinking of going for a Legacy build. overall, the helmet seems much more blacksmith-friendly, and more easier to build.

http://

from what I can tell, the easiest way to build this would to be cutting out, smoothing down, and shaping the cheeks/backpiece all as one piece, then riveting the T-slit piece to the main piece on the outside, and riveting the dome together via the sandwiching technique as before, and that being on the interior behind the main shape and the T-slit bar. confusing? yes, I know. but now that I have a dishing form at hand, I can actually get some work into it. outside of college work. but there's still the weekends, eh?
