My Assassin Gaunts - WIP
« on: Jan 25, 2012, 01:47 AM »
So I am looking to build my gauntlets after I finish getting my bucket build (not ready for paint yet, still thinking about scheme).  I wanted to throw out a few questions and ideas here before I actually start production.

As far as design goes, I am going to go ahead and build these out of my precision cut heat bendable plastic (1/8") so custom shaping and fiberglassing is absolutely in order.

I want to incorporate a screen into one wrist.  Way down the road I'd like to have a really advanced electronic kit, but for now I was thinking about molding a hard case's front for my EVO 4G into the left gaunt.  I have read and seen plenty of examples of what is acceptable work for incorporating technology like this into gauntlets, so I'm not too worried about that.

The thing that I really wanted some feedback on is what type of greeblies should I use for making this more in universe?  A couple of LEDs for SW style buttons/lighting would be simple enough for me to incorporate.  I was thinking about making this look like a touchscreen slicer pad, but what little touches should I go for to do this?

I also am thinking about having a hinged cover that you flip open to get to the touchscreen.  With it closed the screen will be completely covered but it would be easy to still use.  I wanted this because as an Assassin I would want my gaunts to be useful in fighting, and having a screen in a place to get easily smashed just wouldn't do.

The only other special considerations are an expansion of what I just mentioned, I am a martial arts heavy assassin.  I don't want "weapons" per se but I'd like to design these to make sense and enhance hand to hand combat abilities.

Also what do you guys recommend as a closure mechanism.  I'm still debating on having them open with a hinge or just snap them together as a two piece design.  Mostly the issue for me is I would like a hinged design, but really don't want the look of external hinges.

As for greeblies think 70's tech ;D

if your going for a martial arts heavy assassin you could always do a Vibro knife on your gaunt.

Being that I wasn't alive for the 70's it's just so hard to think that way.  I'm just going to sit down and watch the original trilogy again looking for things like button styles and other inspiration.

I was thinking about making the gaunts themselves a weapon as opposed to having a knife jutting out from them.  Such as consider which edges will be striking surfaces and give them a slit and slightly protruding straight edge down the entire side.

I wasn't alive ether in the 70's Vod  For buttons id recommend using Keyboard keys not the skinny ons you get on laptops but the big chunky ones you get on proper keyboards.

I like the idea of using  the striking surfaces. sounds good ;D
