Sorry, I've been away so long. I have not been idle in my absence though![ author=Falin Skirata link=topic=46615.msg663070#msg663070 date=1328542468]
Sanding it is going to be tons of fun lol... alot of detail work to get through and around.

As for getting the color you're after without worrying about paint issues, try rub n buff. It comes in a variety of metallic colors... gold, bronze, copper, silver, etc etc. You can pick it up at most craft and hobby stores or ebay.

Sanding it was a joy  but it needed doing. Unfortunatly I could not find Rub n buff in the right color, the closest was still to orangey for me. Thank you anyway though ;D.
While I've worked on the torso plates and knees and thighs I wanted to show you what's taken the most time (over two months whenever I had free time)
My new belt!

Detail of border work

Juno's personal sigil

And on the pocket

And the handmade tassels

It still needs aging but I wanted to show it before I beat it up. Comments? Critique?

I like the look of it.  I would just leave it if I were you.  It gives it more of a natural metal look.  This is absolutely phenominal.  What do you use to sculpt?  Jewelry clay?

Thank you! To answer your question, it is apoxie sculpt www.avesstudio.com. It is great medium. Not only does it hold detail well, it sands and it takes an hour or two to dry so you have great working time.I love this stuff.

A little bitty Necro posting... lol But I just HAD to say how absolutely beautiful your plates and soft stuff is turning out! I've always had a liking to the Middle Eastern/belly dance costumes. I'm wondering if hand painting this with acrylics might work. I had to do that with my most of my helmet and all the decorations/designs on my armor plates.

I'm certainly looking forward to seeing more updates!!  8)

I think what might make the intricate design work show up better in photos is to take some sort of black paint or other weathering compound and outline or trace all the little details. That will help the eyes focus on all the nice designs going around the plates.

Thank you both!  I really appreciate the advice. A'den, I'm not sure what you mean by hand painting with acrylics? Do you mean outlining the designs or putting down acrylics in lieu of sculpting?
Lucas, I have done some weathering on the plates with black acrylic paints, and I think you are right, I like them much better
They are on my new thread, here

Is that what you have in mind?
I'll be posting updates there from now on, too.
Thank you again for the help!

LOL Sorry, I meant do all the painting by hand to get the effects that you wants. A dark wash would look good too to make the detailing poop, like Lucas suggested. Think...antique jewelry. Wish I still had the old Afghani tribal jewelry. Id take some pics to share...
