Sanding it is going to be tons of fun lol... alot of detail work to get through and around.
As for getting the color you're after without worrying about paint issues, try rub n buff. It comes in a variety of metallic colors... gold, bronze, copper, silver, etc etc. You can pick it up at most craft and hobby stores or ebay.
Sanding it was a joy
but it needed doing. Unfortunatly I could not find Rub n buff in the right color, the closest was still to orangey for me. Thank you anyway though
