i would also be interested in one or two of these beauts.

also found this on a friend's website and looked mighty close to the DE-10's design. maybe i'm wrong but check this on out

umm, that's a LeMat.  A very unique Civil War firearm of the Southern Confederacy, most often used by their cavalry.  The EPIC part is in the design, 9 .44cal shots, and the arbor for the gun is actually a shotgun.

problem, it's totally unique in and of itself.

The good news, when it is used it's definitive and it already looks pretty epic when modified to go Sci-Fi (Malcom Reynold's gun is a modified LeMat.)

The bad news, the firing and even blank replicas are wicked expensive.  And I own, and know firsthand it's a pocketcannon of epic proportions much like the Walker Colt.  It's HUGE.  It balances well, but it is massive.  With all the smaller parts it'd be hard to make a mould out of it for cast resining, but it is pretty cool.  It would be very cool to see one of those modified SWarsy and on the belt of a mando, but it wouldn't be an easy task in any direction to do.

The best option may be taking screen captures of the gun from "Red Dead Redemption" and then processing those into pepakura files.  I have no clue how that is even remotely accomplished however.

On a side note, the Union side's Starr revolver has a very similar profile with its swooping backstrap and is considerably easier to make a resin mold off of.  But hands down, unfortunately Colt was the top runner, and as such they are the cheapest and easiest to find in all varieties of replicas, toys, and non-firing pieces.

Just a note from someone who has collected them all, not to burst anyone's bubble by any means.  Like I said, a modified LeMat would be EPIC.  And maybe, just maybe there are props of Mal's weapon within the "Browncoat" cosplayers, and then it'd be even easier to get ahold of.

that's a great site Ti'Meshla, that's considerably cheaper than a firing replica.  And with one of those a person doesn't have to feel bad messing with it at all.  The question I have about them though is their quality of manufacture and how durable they are.  Beyond that, they could be great.

i have a pair of "gunfighter" revolvers from a similar site (same manufacturer i think), they are really high quality and i am sure it would be easy to mod if you knew how to modify metal weapons properly......i do not lol

Frost has made a couple of these. Maybe he'll chime in on what he used (since he never actually posts WIPs like a doofus).

I've built a number of DE-8 pistols (IE, they're based off of a navy-colt replica, but don't look exactly like a DE-10)

In truth, creating a DE-10 clone out of a replica of any real-world fire-arm is going to be quite difficult. the DE-10 was modeled by somone who was clearly looking at pictures of a navy colt, but who had also never actually seen one or played around with one. As such, there are certain anatomical differences in the two weapons that will be very hard to overcome.

I would suggest:

A) Buy one of the DE-10s that prop-makers have already built. It will save you a lot of time and effort
B) Come to terms with the fact that, if you do mod a gun, it won't ever look exactly like the DE-10.

As for the LeMat, I'de advise against it. The LeMat is easily recognizable, and so ungodly huge that it would prove a bear to carry around.

Good luck, and I hope you can find a weapon that suits your fancy.

As of this time last year, Solus Kyr was in possession of DE-10 molds, originally created by Ick'tan. At the time, he was willing to take a commission to cast a pair for me for an extremely reasonable price (as such things go in the prop world). Dunno if he's still got the molds, if they're still in usable condition or if he's willing to do a set up, but it can't hurt to PM him if you're willing to shell out some dough. The worksmanship was quite satisfactory, although I did make some modifications as I wanted the barrels to be larger. You can see the original and my mods here: http://mercs.firespray.net/forum/index.php?topic=23918.msg486566#msg486566 and the paint job here: http://mercs.firespray.net/forum/index.php?topic=23918.msg505425#msg505425. Both are in the same thread, but I figured I'd save you some digging time.

Well I hope that Solus chimes in and lets us know the status of the molds. I for one would be interested in a set.

If anyone is interested in the molds, you could always try pming the person and take initiative.

I agree with frost, modifying a real/replica into exactly a de-10 would be very tough.

However, I also think.something modified from these to look similar to it is easily done.

Also the LeMat is a hand cannon, a real world version of hellboy's if you will, but like a bluntline, or a colt walker there isn't anything quite like it and its truly one of a kind. I myself love mine in the custom shoulder rig I made for it and its a blast to shoot.  A non-firing cheaper version could make an excellent SWarsy firearm. If you've got the wrists to control it ;)

Yeah, your best bet is to PM him directly; you never know if he'll happen across this thread. Just mouse over the member tab up top, click 'search members' and search 'Solus Kyr'. He should be the first result. If you click and find the Alor'ad in Arizona, you know you have the right guy.

got back to work on this. i had a bunch of pics as i went through the first few steps, but my dumbphone deleted them. not all that happy with how it's turning out so far, a little smaller than what i had intended, printer is having sizing issues (also delaying getting my armor started)

finally got the sizing right and made a print out, here you can see the difference in size. the new one looks much better.

will have more progress over the weekend.

I think im gonna make a few variants on this, the original (as close to SWG as I can get), a snub nosed holdout version, and the DE-10 mk II (heavily modified version)
