Destroyer's U.S. Army kit WIP (start to finish)
« on: Nov 19, 2011, 12:21 AM »
This is my second kit, and is a tribute to the United States Army. This kit is already 'finished', but thought everyone would love to see how it all came together.

This is the basis for the color scheme:

The gloves I use are Wiley-X gloves:

My buy'ce is an M-DSB assassin I purchased from a friend a while back, and had to strip the paint and basically start from the beginning:

For the visor I used a dark green grinding shield:

Lights:

Back of the helmet. In Mando'a text it says 'Army of One':

Now for the armor. All crafted from Sintra:

Closeup of the chest diamond:

Back Plate:

First test fitting of the armor:

Shoulder bell. Tried out a texturing method using a leather stamp:

Primer:

Painted:

Here I've begun to tool the Ge'tal Vheh squad sigil into the other shoulder bell:

Finished:

I also made an alternate shoulder bell with the Mandalorian Merc's Skull:

The leather tools I used:

Here I've started the knees:

Painted:

I decided to change the knee darts:

Boot Armor:

Shins:

Man-of-War gauntlets:

Gauntlet assembled, with 'Eire go brach' written on the side. It means 'Ireland Forever':

Painted:

The reason it's on the gauntlet:

Other gauntlet finished:

Finished pics:

The vest is a Vizer's coat from www.renstore.com

The belt I hand made out of leather

Con Pics:

And this is just something to add to special events such as Cancer and Support The Troops.

This project took four days from start to finish. I love the look of the Assassin helm but had been missing the RF, so I made one for the Assassin. I know some of you will think the RF looks tall, just keep in mind that the ear plates slope way back on the helm, so by the time you get the RF in front of the eye and then stand it upright, it will look taller.

Here are my WIP photos

I used a bi pod from an airsoft gun

I made a paper template in the shape of the upper ear plate

I then cut it out of aircraft aluminum approx 1/8 thick

This was a very scary moment.. If it didn't work out, I just messed up my helm

More of the ear plate cut away

As I was sanding the ear cap off the helm was getting thin and needed to be thickened up from the inside

I also filled in the small groove on the outer ear plate too

I used the viewer from a Rubies helm

Cut out a space for a lens and put a spacer in it to hold lens into place

Lens in

This is the glue I used

Glued the viewer to the stalk. After glue drys it will be sanded smooth and painted

The aluminum plate was glued to the helm

I then made an out line of where the RF stalk sets in the upright position

I then made a wall out of AC tape and filled with the glue / resin

After sanded to match the helms ear plate it was masked off for paint. Base coat black then a top coat of OD green

With the paint dry it was time to take off the tape and scuff it to match again

RF installed and DONE!

Excellent kit. Love the LEDs in the helmet vent thingies, how'd you manage that?

Thanks everyone, glad you guys like it. The ear cap with lights: just filed the slots to fit the rectangle leds, made a small circuit to mount the leds on, ran a small battery pack to them.
