paradoxdj:
So I'm pretty new here and in stead of re-introducing myself before i get in to the build, i will just redirect everyone to my introduction thread.

NOW ONTO THE BUILD!
I joined this forum to learn all about the mandalorian armour as research for my own build which I had started about the same time that I joined up. I'm trying to finish the kit for the release of the Bioware MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic that's rumored to come out late October - early November of this year and also to troop with some of my fellow local costumers.
I'm making it out of paper and fiberglass (helmet) and sintra (body armour and blasters). Not too much progress has been made with the kit until recently, within the last few days I'v managed to remake a scratch built helmet, which is being fiberglassed right now, and get about 45% of the work done on a Westar-34 blaster pistol that I will be molding and making an identical pair of. I plan on getting the brunt of this build done this over the next 2-3 weeks so keep watching for updates as they come!
now onto the pictures!

(1) (2) (3) (4)
(5)
(1) Armour concept with all the elements, there's a second belt that will be worn as if it's hanging solely off one hip, a pair of holsters and the white stripes on the forearms missing from the concept art here. There will also be the mandalorian skull added to the cape once i make it.
(2) Armour concept minus all the blocking cloth elements, there's a second belt that will be worn as if it's hanging solely off one hip and a pair of holsters missing from the concept art here.
(3) Beginning of the Westar-34 blaster pistol. This is the handle, made out of layered sintra.
(4) Beginning of the Westar-34 blaster pistol. This is the handle with what will become the barrel once I get access to a wood lathe this Saturday. It's missing a larger piece just over top of the handle on the barrel.
(5) Pictures of the helmet before applying resin or fiberglass. This is made using Wizard of Flight's templates. I need to bulk up the dome a bit so it doesn't look so small compared to the rest.
Make sure to tell me what you think! All constructive criticism is happily received!
Look for more updates to come!

Before you glass the bucket, Does it fit you ok ?
paradoxdj:
Good thought, one that I had earlier tonight when I tried it on again and realized that it's a bit too wide and possibly just too big on the whole. I'll post a picture of it right now as of 5 minutes ago i'm gonna rebuild it while attempting to fix all the gripes that I have about this current helmet and see how well that works. This'll put me behind by a day or two but it's worth it if it get's built right...the last 4 and a half tried haven't but I'm really feeling this one, I think I have enough experience under my belt with this helmet that I can actually get something good this time. Wish me luck.

I'm kinda happy that i caught this before i got too far into the glassing process, although I guess I was kinda over 50% done...oh well.

*BUMP FOR UPDATE*
Alright so after remaking the helmet at 97% of it's original size and making sure the lines fall correctly. It now fits almost perfectly! After 5 tries I got it right and i'm super happy with it!

I'v done almost all of the handle for the master westar blaster pistol and I"ll be cutting the barrel on my friends lathe this Sunday, so soon I'll have that done and I'll start getting the mold done and casting a matching pair for the kit!
Also I have a friend who does some leather work that's gonna teach me some stuff about that and i'll be custom making my belts and all the straps for the kit. so watch out for that.
The armour plates will be started this week and should hopefully be done within the next two weeks. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures for this stuff yet but they'll come as the work get's done so keep watching and there will be updates!
tell me what you think so far, i know you don't have much to see yet but any and all criticism is welcome!

So far you're on a roll. The helmet size and shape look good, the first post was ok, but the way you tightened it up really worked. The grip for the westie is a nice piece of work, scratch building an iconic item is always a risk, but it looks like you've got a 'handle' on things. ;)
