Hi Vode

Iv been playing with the Idea of scratch building a blaster carbine type thing.

here is a mock up i made from some cardboard:

What do you think of it? Im in two minds really, sometimes i love it others i hate it. ;D I just not sure if it fit’s in to the SW Universe.
Advice and Critiques welcomed. ;D

kind of reminds me of a p90 bullpup design. just build it and see how it takes shape.  ;)

that has possibilities , if you keep it 70's tech looking , the basicshape is cool , theres a pic some where in the visual dictionary of a rougue Jedi with something like that shape

that looks almost identical to a P90 makes me think that an airsoft P90 may be a good base for this hrmmmmm

thanks mate that is an awesome find ;D i think i can work with that, although i might deP90 it a bit (well it has to be custom lol)

I think it looks a little smaller than the P90 and the stock looks like it tapers as opposed to straight on the P90.

yep i think with a little tweek here and there i can make a go of this.

Right quick question time to you experienced scratch builders out there.

1. what wood do you recommend to use?

2. how do you seal the wood for painting so you don’t see the grain?

#2 put a thin coat of fiberglass resin directly on the wood possibly 2 coats, but that should sel it and hide the grain completely.  Did it on a knife I was working on and it worked great.

My take on weapons is this...all star wars blasters are based on real world weapons, they are just modified to look more "Spacey". I think using a P90 and holding on to this picture as reference for canon is a good way to make this gun. :)

you can do it this way , but personaly i'd skin it with P38 ( basically Bondo here in the UK )and sand

also you could use a plastic resin and coat it a few times and that would take away the grainyness also its way easyer to apply that fiberglass resin just make sure it doesnt run
