So, I'm beginning the basics of a sidearm for my kit. The idea is to have a ranged weapon of some kind for a mostly blade/ closed combat type concept.

To start, I took this pistol, The Nerf ttg:

 

and decided to turn it into my own version of a flechette pistol:


Here are some really early bare-bones WIP pics...

I see where you are going with this.  Is the cardboard just to give you an idea of your direction or are you going to go over it with fiberglass?  If you are going to add something at the front like that, try to keep it in the same spirit as the gun itself.  Keep the round, organic feel to it.

I thought about fiberglass but Ive never used it before. I was thinking of maybe using the cardboard as a shape reference and making panels from "tote" plastic (maybe Fiberglass or Bondo?) I saw a thread where someone used some kind of expanding filler to fill the hollow inside of another Nerf pistiol, and since the TTG's hollow, shouldn't be a problem.

So, Im thinking plastic panels, Bondo/FG, filler, and sanding . This is new to me, so Im not 100%.

I want to stay true to the boxy feel of the barrel, as it's a Multi Flechette Pistol (hence the -MFP01 designation in the name), designed to launch various types of flechette projectiles, (like explosive, poison, ion pulse, and shredding) The juxtaposition of the organic against the boxy is intriguing, but I could be wrong. Also, a holster may prove to be a real pain in the shebs.

Perhaps a round barrel like Seugtai's Ripper design.?

    I definitely like the multi-barrel designs and Zohar Nef has a pretty good idea with the cross shape 5-barrel or even if you go with a tri-barrel it will look pretty nice ... and be easier to holster =)

Okay, before reading the posts form you guys, I did some tweaking yesterday.

I cut up an empty plastic bottle after  finishing my men's body wash and shaped pieces to the pistol for a sleeker fit. (Zul's all about sleek...) Here's what I got.

yeah, I kinda had that design in mind for the bid-ness end of the GVPG's barrel...just modified, which will work well with the current additions I've made. (see above pics.)

Best advice i could give is , Use Photobuckets [img] codes and half decent res pic's . I cant see much to critiqe mate ! Plus im not a fan of the Nerf stuff , though what i can make out look's promisingly different

First, I'd get some bigger/better images like Kel suggested.  It is really hard to make out the images.  Secondly, look at buying other guns, dollar store types, bottles, things like that.  And don't be afraid to get in and start cutting!

UPDATE:

Added a few greeblies including the handle grip of the NERF N-Strike Maverick


and in my opinion, it seems to be taking shape pretty nicely. I have a tube of epoxy putty that I plan on using to fill in the spaces and give an overall shape.

Any questions, comments, and/ or critiques (preferably the kind that offer constructive help) ?

After my first adventure with Bondo, I realized the front karking barrel came out crooked.  

I have some ideas after some more sanding to add some more plastic to improve the shape.
