Tor'Tracyn's WIP! Update on Page 4! CHEST PLATES!

<< < (10/13) > >>

TorTracyn Dusat:
Thanks a lot, Vod! It'd be awesome to see that as a tattoo lol

I do like the way my plates have come out so far. I need to do a little more forming on par of my back plate before I can put the metal on it...then paint it...Because of my design, I need all of my front plates mounted before I tape off the hourglass....so much work left lol

TorTracyn Dusat:
Alright, that should be the last long pause in my armor making. I'm waiting for my armory (as well as all of my other worldly possessions) to be transported from Texas to Florida. The guy said it should be here on Monday...we got into town last Sunday. >.<

BUT! We have a garage now, do we should be able to get more work done in time for C6! That being our goal and...considering I don't have a job right now...stuff should actually get done on time this time. :) That being said, look our for more updates soon! :D

TorTracyn Dusat:
Finally! More progress!

I finally got the correct tape to make a cast of my torso, so I now have torso plates!!

They're all trimmed up now and have bondo applied, but the bondo isn't sanded yet. I'll put another picture up when I've done that. Super excited, but an epic spillage of bondo meant some happy fun burning hands time. Got it almost all washed off and the aloe plant in my front yard is my best friend now....but yeah.

I've also put some work into one of my pistols. I decided that, since my mando is all about close quarters combat, her pistols totally needed blades on them.

This isn't the finished product! I want to make that clear now. Not finished product! But here. Enjoy.

The laces will be done better later, but they're the same red leather laces I'm using to lace up the sides of my vest. The blade is actually surprisingly stable, too.

Front view, mostly so you can see that it isn't just one flat thing of plastic.

But I guess y'all would have figured that out by this picture.

I'm open to suggestions about how to close up the gaps, too, btw. My AWESOME husband bought me a propane torch, and that's what I used to connect the pieces together along the blade edge. I just melted them together. There's a spot where I need to go over it again because it's cracked, but everything else is staying really well....and that big burnt spot? Yeah. That's TOTALLY where I blocked a lightsaber. I guess there are two big burnt spots, but still.

I need suggestions on an easy way to close the gaps around the upper edge and inside the hour glass...perferably that doesn't involve cutting plastic to fit and melting that in there too, because I'm WAY too lazy to do that....but I would totally do it all with mighty putty or a mighty putty like substance because somehow that isn't lazy.

The end result will be black with silver for the blade edge where it would be sharp were it a real blade, and a red outline of the hourglass. I'm thinking the gun itself is going to be run 'n buffed silver or the lightest gold I have, maybe a mix of both. Not really sure though. We'll see. :)

So close to being done, but still so far away.....

TorTracyn Dusat:
Woo! More updates!

This would be the left chest plate! Complete with one battle damage scrape....that is honestly only there because I couldn't get the bondo to behave :D

Bit better view of the scrape/gouge/whatever.

Outer edge, just so y'all can see the basic shape.

This is the right one!

And a spot of 'battle damage' on the right one that was another spot where bondo just wouldn't behave.

This is far from being the last coat of paint. I can't put the red hour glass on until I have every plate painted black and attached to the armor so I can get the hourglass on straight...and I need to find gloss black instead of the flat black, because the red I have is gloss...

But yeah. I HAVE CHEST PLATES!

That belly plate up there ended up flattening out, and I remembered I had one out of plastic, so...it's all good :)

So close to being done! Y'all are gonna see a lot more updates between now and C6. I'm really going to work hard to have a kit to wear there. :)

Adenn Kyram:
I think gloss red on flat black would look even more devastatingly lethal than gloss red on gloss black. ;) just my opinion. Oh those are some ori'kandosi bad shebs chest plates you have there vod. :D
