Author Topic: Which do you think works better for the puch belts, canvas or leather?  (Read 258 times)

Which ever you think is better, why do you think that? Where did you get the material?
Is there a rule about the material?

While I am here asking questions about soft parts, What is the best material for a vest?

As well as is there a rule about the the suit? Can I wear pants instead of a flight suit?
Can I wear a long sleeve shirt ?

(i realize now that i cannot wear laced shoes, but i didnt know that when drawing my costume concept)

Most ammo pouches are pre-made, well, ammo pouches, we get them at military surplus or hunting supply stores. There are several on here that are hand made. As far as material, leather or canvas ae prefferable, although I have seen woven nylon. The biggest thing is that they are rigid enough to hold their shape. Vests kind of fall under the same constraints, I used imitation leather backed with canvas to give it strength. your best bet for a vest is to make it yourself, or have one made for you, there are not a lot of really good retail options. You are allowed to use a two-piece suit, as long as the two parts combined give the appearance of a one piece suit. Hope that helps.

Ive only seen leather pouches, do you know anyone with canvas that i could look at?

I live semi near a leather shop; what thickness of leather would you say? I beleive ive heard of some using marine vinyl, or something to that effect.

About the suit, i was planning on sewing two different shirts together for the effect seen in the photo. im thinking spadex, so  both the shirt  and pants would have to be spandex in order for it to like like one, hm?

(and yes, you are being very helpful! thank you!)

There are a few ladies that have created kits using form fitting suits, I suggest spending a little time looking over these threads, http://mercs.firespray.net/forum/index.php?board=89.0, especially the WIP thread by Vhe Oyre. BTW, the laces on the boots would actually be ok, as long as you put armor over them to hide them.
