The amount of modding needed to make them not look like sports shin guards makes the cost prohibitive. Basically it isn't worth spending that much on something you will have to modd a ton to actually make it work.

just my two cents

That is what I am doing.....   If you look around there is a saying about building your armor.  Three things to decide on....

1) Inexpensive
2) Fast
3) Well made

You can have two of the three...but not all of them.

(I am sure one of the more knowledgeable people will fix my paraphrasing)

Zolar you got it exactly right, and not just about armor.
“Morale is born of loyalty, patriotism, discipline, and efficiency, all of which breed confidence in self and in comrades…Morale is at one and the same time the strongest, and the most delicate of growths. It withstands shocks, even disasters of the battlefield, but can be destroyed utterly by favoritism, neglect, or injustice.”

If I may expand or specify on your well put statement.

1) Expense:  How much are you willing to spend on your kit?  Are you willing to fork out hundreds of dollars to get your kit like you want it.  Or, do you think you can spend a 10th of that and get the same thing with a little ingenuity.

2) Time: How much time are you willing to spend on your kit? Are you willing to spend the majority of your free time devoted to make the best kit possible.  Or, do you want to slap something together just to get it done.

3) Quality: How much effort are you willing to spend on your kit?  Are you willing to put all your blood, sweat and tears into making the kit perfect.  Or, are you willing to cut corners and have shoddy workmanship?

Realistically, all three of these things are to be put into your kit, only you are the one who decides what percentage of each to give.  Just remember, when it gets to the end of the day, can you step back and look at what you've done and be satisfied or are you willing to say, "It'll do."

Good luck on your projects.  You'll get some excellent advice and look around for inspiration.  You never know what you'll find.

Don't use either of those.

Go to Lowers or Home Depot, get you a $15 pair of painter's kneepads/shinguards, cut the kneepad off the top (keep it and use it as well if you want), and then glue your metal/plastic/sintra armor over onto the front. it's sturdy, cheap, and has straps. Plus, it's not sports armor, which we discourage.
