Ok might as well kick off my soft parts WIP sooner rather than later.

Here's my flight suit.
Question on this... does the cloth suit need to be weathered, really?

Ok, gloves next! Once I have them, I'll remove that one logo, and how will that look?

So LMK what you think vode!

They don't NEED to be weathered. But if your plates are, it adds to the overall look of the kit. Weathering makes things look real, not costume-y. That was one of the big things in the original Star Wars - it was a dirty universe.

Gloves look good.

It's not a bad thing to dirty up the undersuit. Gives your mando a bit more cred. ;)

Pretty gloves. Mind me asking where you got them?

With a black flight suit, weathering isn't really noticeable anyway, so you don't have to go crazy. One trick is to take some sandpaper to the knees, elbows and other areas that are likely to get worn. I've also heard of people putting one in a trash can full of rocks and rolling it down a hill :P.

For the vest, I'm not sure if you'd get dinged on the material of that one; looks like the type of stuff you see windbreakers or track suits made out of? If you have an old leather or similar material jacket laying around, or can find one in your size at a thrift store, Ohl'd Vart has a pretty good tutorial on how to turn it into a vest with minimal sewing. There are a few other options floating around too, including a tutorial somewhere on here on making a vest from vinyl without sewing, using fabric glue or some such.

Ben: What do we do now? Lob a baradium missile at it?
Luke: Do we have a baradium missile?
Ben: Sorry, Uncle Han said it was always a good idea to have one--
Luke: Your uncle isn't a jedi. I wish you'd remember that.

Thanks vod, and yeah it is basically a sawed off windbreaker. It's a golfing vest.
I like the rocks in the can idea... but I have no hills.  ;) Not near the house anyway...
I think I'm going to look into a tactical armor carrying vest as well; pretty slim, and I think I can remove the plating sleeves.

The soft parts are the worst!!!

The vest is certainly the trickiest part, in my opinion. I usually just cheat; a straight front panel and back panel sewn together over the shoulders and closed on the sides with straps. A tac vest might work, but remember that per CRLs they can't look like an off-the-shelf tactical vest; it either has to be completely covered by the armor or modified. Usually just covering the zipper (if there is one), and getting rid of the hanging straps and molle webbing will do the trick, especially if you go with a black one.

Can't be fleece either, can it?
Certainly narrows it down!  :o

I have an idea, though...

EDIT: Here's the idea!

Good, bad, indifferent?

I don't think fleece is specifically forbidden, it would just have to be heavy duty enough so that it doesn't sag under the weight of the armor. Plus, you'd want it to be of the smooth variety, not shaggy, if you know what I mean.

That vest is pretty well perfect. The only thing you have to do is cover the zippered pocket and the zipper on the front. It might even be that the front zipper is fine as is; it depends on how noticeable it is once the armor is over it.

Mine came in. It's decent quality and it adjusts well. I got an XL as I have a chest between 44 and 46 but I think I could've easily gotten away with a size L. My only slight beef is that because I have to cinch the straps so far back, the material on the side bunches up a fair bit. I think I'll probably end up taking it to a tailor (or a friend that sews) and have the sides taken in and the straps shortened.

As for the armour covering the main zipper, it'll need covering. Also, the belly armour comes just in between the side pockets so those need to be covered as well. For that, I'm actually thinking of making a single leather piece that all my armour mounts to that buttons on one side. Might make for easier access that way.
