Suit advice concerning leather and racing armor.
« on: Jan 03, 2011, 11:15 PM »
I have a 1 piece women's Motorcycle armored suit in mind that I was  thinking of using to substitute for a flight suit, its a good fit, if not a little hot after extended periods(then again when I wore it, it was about 109 degrees outside...), It doesn't have any logos and there's no gaudy padding.  it also has a 360 degree zipper at the waist which is very functional.

So I have two questions about this:

1. Is there a policy against using suits like this one?

2. Have any of you (esp. the chicks here) used a suit like this and if so what was your experience (negative or otherwise.)

I myself don't see any problems with the suit that would cause problems with the CRLs. Once You've got gloves, flight-vest, armor, belts, and bucket, I'm sure no one would disagree too heavily. The only problems I see at the moment is pockets and shininess. I'm not sure if lack of pockets might be a problem, but with everything else you'll add onto it eventually I'm sure that won't be noticeable. But is the material shiny at all? Even if it is a little, I don't think that's too much of a problem if there's sufficient distraction with plates/armor/other soft parts and whatnot. I'm not an expert though, so once A'den or someone else from the approval team sees this thread they'll give you better info.
If you want to see what wearing it is like, I'd suggest just actually trying to wear it all day. If you're going somewhere public, that may make people look at you funny, but odds are you'll never see those people again anyway, and it would show somewhat accurately what wearing it to an event will feel like. And you'll get stares at events too  ;D
The trick isn't hiding from your prey
The trick is not needing to.

Thank you!

I'll of course have a vest and I have shoes, a helmet in progress as well as several belts and holsters- I figure with all the armor bits not a lot of it will show (plus the neck seal might help)

The material is not as shiny as it appears in the picture but more of a smooth leather finish like a leather finish. I think it would be ideal because I have a leather pauldron that matches and holds my combat knife...

You may find with motorbike gear that it's hard to stand up straight for a lengthy period of time. It's designed to be worn whilst in the racing pose, not whilst walking around. That's my experience with racing suits, anyways. You don't want to be walking around with that oddly bent knees pose all day at a con.

Suit wise the small armor pieces on the lower shins might be an issue. Besides that if you can function in it (aka not over heat and pass out), I don't see any reason not to use it. Overheating in it would probably be my biggest concern. Oh since there isn't a shot of the back, are there any pockets or company symbols on it? Might creat CRL issues with the suit.

Have a good one,
Hagen

P.S. guess the symbols question was answered with the no logo's.. learning to read FTW.

When you wear it around for the day, you might want to throw something on over the chest area. Something to similate what your going to be using for your vest. The reason being, you might  be ok with the race suit on, but when you start adding on the vest, the armor, any accessories your going to have on, ect. It might change your feelings towards the suit. Either way try it out first and see, no passing out durring an event on us  :P

Have a good one,
Hagen

The suit looks like it should work...despite the above concerns over heat.  Give it a go!

Really digging the look of that suit!  Looking forward to seeing it used for a Mando.   8)
