Need Masking Latex
« on: Dec 04, 2011, 08:50 PM »
...Anyone know a good place to get some? I've never used it before and an Amazon search yielded 2865723495245863258 different kinds.

(....So I exaggerated. Just a little. >_>)

Or use rubber cement, thinned with acetone.

Now's there's something I would've never thought to use... o_0 lol. I'd thought about just using rubber cement by itself though, not about thinning it with acetone... Though I do still have some left from my scratchbuild. How much acetone for the little dollar jar that they sell at Walmart?

There is one masking I know from a craft stores.

Its called Windsor & Newton Masking fluid, It looks like this

I've used it to weather my armor and I love it! I found the fluid at Micheal's.

This is what I use as well. Most craft chains carry it.

You can also use gel deodorant if you can't find proper masking fluid, just dab it on thickly with a toothpick or something, and when the paint dries, wipe it off with a rag and then buff it vigorously to make sure you get it all.

I just use regular liquid Latex.  Works great, and can be picked up at most costume shops.

Since you having trouble finding masking fluid you could try using mustard ( the cheap generic kine) or i have found some success with petroleum jelly ( Vaseline ) though it doesn't dry

I always have tons of RD-407 mask latex laying around, so I always use that. Good, thick, and pulls off in a different way every time. Sometimes, it even pulls out from under the paint, leaving a bubble that I can scrape off and give the 3D effect. Coat it in flat clear and the effect stays without further chipping.
