WIP: Nico's Beskar'gam
« on: Sep 04, 2010, 08:02 PM »
This is my outfit so far, the pants are a part of my flight suit while the top is just under armour. On top is my Flak vest that a family member sewed personally for me. I've got plates on the way within the next few days, and will post pics when they arrive.

that vest needs to be really really tighted up under the arms... and the under armor, if i remember corrcetly, does not pass for a flight suit.

Yep, the vest will need tightening up once you're ready to do it.  Also, you said those pants are part of the flightsuit?  They look like shiny nylon track-pants, and I don't think those will pass.  You're much better off going to a local thrift store and getting a pair of black cotton-like pants and a matching black button up shirt.

They're a Nike "flight suit" that I got at the local thrift place. I thought that is be able to make it work. I'll post a pic of the whole flight suit when I get the plates.

Ch'ren, under armor works..  Or at least the skin or close to skin tight style suits work.

Honestly Nico, I would suggest, if you don't have the flightsuit, getting a cheap(er) pair of knock off underarmor pants. OR even if you have the suit, get the under armor for wear under the suit to help absorb sweat, and you can wear it instead of the flightsuit on extra hot events like the 4th of july parade. Other than the vest needing taken in under the arms, it looks ok..... One thing I think will help the baggy look is the sleeve caps/shoulders look to be just extended pieces of the main fabric. It will help if you cut them from the main body and sew them on separately, as far as the bagging and bunching.

Good start, just the little fiddly's to get under control now!

Your plates should be arriving today according to the tracking number!

Won't be until Tuesday because they were shipped to my dads office.

As I said the vest is going to be trimmed tingly because it's not done yet.
And te flight suit is a two piece thing.

I'd avoid skin tight unless you meet one of the following 3 criteria...

1. Heavy fully closed armor like a TK or Clone
2. You're built like a Professional Wrestler
3. You're female

If you don't meet at least one of those 3, it's honestly going to look really funky.  :-\

And if you meet all three...woah. The pants, well, that Nike logo is rather poorly placed, it'll be tough to cover it with armor without the armor looking misplaced, it's too high to be covered by a thigh plate, and too low and too far to the side to be under the cod. Even if you can get rid of it or hide it, that doesn't solve the problem of the shiny nylon fabric. I'm also concerned that the neckline on the vest may be too large; I made that mistake with my first vest, I couldn't get the collar plate to attach properly because there wasn't enough fabric up high enough on my chest

The skin tight was only because my top was being washed, that's not a part of the outfit.

As for the vest, I can have the neck line closed up a bit if necessary. And for tr logo on te pants I was planning on having a holster to cover it up. If I can find another flight suit option for cheap I'll get it, but for now your just gonna have to bear with it for pictures because I at least need it in the meantime to help myself get the look down to a general look that I want.

I'll post pics tommorrow of the whole flight suit so that I can get an opinion if it'll be ok or not.

I'm just thinking those nylon pants are going to detract the whole suit and bring it down looks-wise.  And with a matching top, it'll look like a track-suit, just my opinion on it.  Might also be difficult to get that material to hold up any plates you plan to attach to it.  I really think you'd be better off with a more cotton-like material, much more durable and easier to weather.

It the plether/vinyl should work for te vest right? Was bagginess te only issue with that part?
And I'll try looking into another flight suit alternative soon, in the meantime I'll stick to this one for update pics until I get another suit.

The vest materials look just fine, and the general appearance of it, it's mostly just the bagginess that needs to be taken care of. The collar 'head hole' is kind of on the huge side too; it can be big enough to stick your head through, but it shouldn't be much (or any, if possible) larger than the collar of a standard t-shirt.

As for the other stuff, I myself wear closefitting under-armor-style 'flight suit', but my soft parts and armor cover up most everything until it's hardly noticeable. In the past, I've also worn a pair of black dress pants, Dickies, I believe, with a black dress shirt, the collar folded down underneath so it wasn't visible. Again, with the rest of the soft parts and armor on, you couldn't tell what they were. I've also used the same dress pants with a simple long-sleeved, collarless black shirt. The possibilities are out there, it's just a matter, as the CRLs state, of making it so people can't tell that it's a two-piece flight suit of ambiguous origins.
