Costume progress~ Flight suit
« on: May 04, 2010, 01:00 AM »
This is a flight suit that my uncle actually gave me when he stopped flying. Its about 10 years old. So nothing too special about it other than it was free and that makes me happier than anyone could ever know.
Perfect color, shade, and fabric. The real deal.
May have to get some patches made just for the heck of it.
Its a bit long so I need to figure out a way to hem it with out making it look too edited. Plus it might be nice to get the zippers working again. The easy part will be getting it to fit around my waist and chest correctly.

Better pictures later.

Great start! If you're worried about the legs being too long, I would keep in mind that most of us end up tucking our pant legs into our boots anyway, so it might not be as much of an issue as you think. It all depends on the type of boots you want, I suppose.

Correction. Its almost 20 years old.

True. I have yet to find a pair I really want but I have some that will work for now. Along with a few others that I can use until I find the right pair.

If your local Walmart has a fabric section (I know some of the ones around here have gotten rid of them) they have a decent array of zippers. I do most of my own sewing by hand, which is a royal pain in the shebs, but replacing a zipper isn't all that difficult. Just  a matter of taking your time and trying not to stab yourself in the finger with the needle :P.

Also, those boots aren't bad, but you'd have to add spats or armor to cover up the laces.

Ben: What do we do now? Lob a baradium missile at it?
Luke: Do we have a baradium missile?
Ben: Sorry, Uncle Han said it was always a good idea to have one--
Luke: Your uncle isn't a jedi. I wish you'd remember that.

No all the walmarts have gotten rid of the fabric. I'll just hit up hobby lobby.

And yes I know. It's the color I like the most. The laces will not be hard to cover. Was planning on gaurds there anyways.

if you find an old leather coat the same-ish color(thrit shop) you can use the sleeves as gators to hide the laces, sometimes shin armor doesnt cover all the laces if the boots are tall.

Good idea. I can do that. The flight suit mostly covers it anyways.

I am so looking forward to my next trip to Hobby Lobby. So much to buy so little time, so little cash.
