Crusader armour planning
« on: Aug 03, 2012, 10:02 AM »
Hi all. just some words of advice. Im planning my first build and looking at Crusader era. I have looked at the spec for official membership but wanted to get a better feel for what may or may not e acceptale.

Sorry dont have any drawings at present apart from in my head, but I was thinking of using leather ( which is ok to use under specs) for such areas as aesthetic helmet areas, shoulders, gauntlets, shin guards and possibly partial chest,.. mixing it with metal ( or metal armour look) I have looked at ref pics of Rohlan and some armour in the way it is drawn appears to have a mix of hard and softish material for functionality.

I also propose a jetpack and possible cape.

 many thanks for any help.
Regards...

Well, iot mostly depends on Early or Late Crusader. FOr an Early Crusader, rough metal, bone and leather as armor is great and the way to go. For a Late Crusader, leather certainly has it's uses but, I wouldnt do the bullk of the armor from it. I would conserve it more for strapping systems etc.

Apologies. I have to read more thoroughly, perhaps should have posted this in the
"Comments/Quesions on CRL's ".  I would be looking at late crusade. Yes I had gathered that majority would proably not be preferd for the LC. Thanks heaps!  ( I just love leather!)  its so exciting planning this!

If you are really a fan of working with and using leather, it may be better to focus on the more Earthy toned Early Crusaders. Check out Seugtai's armor and build thread. Alot of her armor parts, including her whole chest plate, is leather. She opted for more of the leather and bone but, leather and metal (roughly forged) works great here as well. Rather than focus on leather as an auxilary componant, with the Early Crusader you cna focus on it as a primary componant.
