Piano hinge?
« on: Mar 31, 2010, 06:15 PM »
Hi everybody! Jaiing again with another question about the piano hinge that goes into constructing gauntlets. How do you cut it properly and get it to still operate?
this is the stuff vode. Please help seasoned mercs!  ;D

Hacksaw.

Clamp it or put it in a vice and carefully cut it. As long as you don't bend it, it will be fine.

Chainsaw. Rocket Propelled Chainsaw.

Or, y'know, a hacksaw or dremmel, if you wanna be mundane.

Ben: What do we do now? Lob a baradium missile at it?
Luke: Do we have a baradium missile?
Ben: Sorry, Uncle Han said it was always a good idea to have one--
Luke: Your uncle isn't a jedi. I wish you'd remember that.

Mark where you need the length , then score with a sharp knife (exacto) along side of a metal ruler then cut with a fine hacksaw blade . This can keep the hacksaw blade from jumping or scoring . and between holes LOL

to mirror what everyone else said but one more step, since you will most likely have left over, take that into consideration and push your pin through the barrel a little further so you can bend in into an "L" shape. This little bit of extra will allow you to pop the pin out and reinsert it soooo much easier. Don't forget to sand the pin and the inside of the barrel (inner barrel can be done with a small drill bit to clean out any burrs )

if you don't do this step than you'll have a part where your pin does not go to the end and if they are tight, then you'll have a small gap.

For mine, I just used some tin snips. Took a minute per cut then I knocked the burrs off with my dremel and a sanding wheel. Hope this helps...
