Late Era Bucket Build "TT" Inspired
« on: Jan 24, 2010, 01:35 PM »
I've always liked the look of the TT visored helmet. Well, the general design anyway. It's a good example of a helmet that would be great for custom use. It's simple, lots of room to take nearly any visor and any other customisation you could want.

So in a fit of ADD, and the desire to get a bucket built for my Late Era build, I present this mess...

Well, actually it's not that much of a mess. It's polyurathane spray foam (Mono Foam expanding insulation) over a quick form, in this case a visor template, a sheet of cardboard at the back and a balloon to give a dome.

Quick and easy to get rough shaped with a knife.

More as this progresses.

Just a update. Really still in rough shape, but looks more like something than just a blob of foam :)

And the current views.

Sand, eye and fill, sand and fill. The joys of the scratch build.  ;D

it is coming along in general shape. Although, I'm thinking of redoing the back and sides up to the ears with a taper. Looks a little too blocky.

Get the shape down, then start work on the detailing...

Actually, I probably wouldn't consider it all that much cheaper than any other method. About $30 on supplies this far, and while nothing I've used is really toxic, the foam is a potential mess waiting to happen while it's not cured.

End of day progress shot.

Little more shape to the side and back. Looks more featured and inspired.

I'm working on balancing the mohawk and it's notches smoothed and balanced. That's going smoothly, despite the time it takes for the filler to dry before the next round.

After that, well, there's the rub.

Either I cast it plain like this, or with greeblisation. All depends on interest in a bucket of this design to customize to one's heart's content.

Getting the 'hawk balanced has been the largest pain to date. But looking better and better.

Not really, I switched gears to push my Modern era kit through, and then got really busy with work, which has turned into really busy with school.
