Pre Era Helmet
« on: Jan 18, 2011, 10:23 PM »
After some conversation, it was either modern era or pre era Mando, so I chose the latter:

This is the concept:

I wanted to make it a bit more crazier, so here's an idea of it:

Now here's the progress:

Any and all thoughts about this would be much appreciated
Tomorrow will come, without prayers. The end will come, without hurrying. I live only to be worthy of the corpse I shall leave behind on that day. For the day that I will die.

All I ever wanted to do was to travel to far off exotic places and meet new and exciting people.........and then kill them.  So I became a mercenary, and I love what I do.

Lol at Mulreel :D At least there's no rabbit...

I like it. The shot of you holding it made me think it was way too small, but it must have been the massive sleeves. I do agree that the horns may be a bit much, but you could do shorter ones perhaps?

Those...those were my legs. >_>

The horns may be a bit long, but I sorta want them to be that length.

Here's more:

I put supports for the inner cheeks:

I put one of the horns on, just to give a general idea, from the left side:

And from the right side:
Tomorrow will come, without prayers. The end will come, without hurrying. I live only to be worthy of the corpse I shall leave behind on that day. For the day that I will die.

Have you seen this build of the same style helmet?  Might be useful as you build yours.

I agree here, just something about them throws me off as well and I agree I think it's the length, they become a bit too visually overpowering. I do kinda like the idea of the jaw bones, but I wouldn't just stick them on the outside of the cheek, If it was me I would embed them while doing the bondo work. (Not sure how your doing this part since it hasn't been stated as of yet.)

And as Taglar posted I am as well doing a build based off of this same guy, so if you have any questions on anything I've done so far I'd be more than happy to help ya out.  ;)

honestly, the horns make me think of dark age/barbarian armored warriors, which is nice but I don't see "Mandalorian" when that's in play so drastically.

I understand that I'm following guidelines for pre-era armor, but does have to look exactly as it does in that picture? Would there be variations to that one?

There could be variations...I guess the issue at hand is so far your helmet looks very "modern era" based.  The only known images of "early mandalorians" have these bone/skull helmets with a more sleek design.

The concept of the helmet is fine and customization is fine as well. However, my issue wih it to this point is the design that's being built and shown... the base has a striking resemblence to a modern era helmet design. I am trying not to pass judgement on an incomplete piece but, at this time, it's looking more like a modern era helmet with horns teeth etc added to it rather than an early era helmet. Keep in mind, most of the Tuang mask/helmets of this period were form fitting helmets that looked more bone or rough hewn metal than the sleek smooth metal on the modern era helmets. Also, there were as many or more masks as full helmets. Also, things like the indented cheeks etc went nearly as prominant.

if you want to keep the horns that length I would lay them against the helm so they flow towards the back of the helm insted of standing straight up. And as some has said it does have a modern look to it. Look at seugatis' thred. Try to get it more like that where it looks like bone and not a master work metal helm.
I am but the last of a lost clan. I am a lost Mandalorian now.
