Vode,

Over this past weekend I managed to get the body armor and the gaunts primed and silvered. If all goes well, I should be able to do the final coat of dark grey and begin weathering them sometime this upcoming weekend.

Vode,

Well, after a trial run using the previous gaunts in this thread I decided to scrap them and redo the gaunts from scratch using PVC pipe (see pics below). So far I have cut out the gaunts from a single 2' piece of PVC pipe, not sure what size. I have cut them into a top and bottom for each gaunt. I have shaped them using a dremel tool, hacksaw, and sanding blocks. I have also installed a piano hinge so they open and close with ease. Now on to the greebiles. To the left gaunt I've added the start of what will be some blasters.  To the right gaunt I haven't added anything yet, I'm wanting the right gaunt to have a holoprojector/tranceiver unit or some other communications equipment. I have a broken calculator that I can scavenge for buttons, etc to use, but I need a few other components. I'll try to update this a bit more regularly since I've started working on the gaunts again. I also need to figure out some sort of closure system to keep the gaunts on, any suggestions? Temporarily the gaunts are being held closed with painter's masking tape until I figure out what I'm going to use.

Vode,

I've restarted working on the guants and am currently working on building a flat surface on them to put some comlink greeblies and buttons on. I should be able to get some more work done on that this evening and will post some pics of it in the next few days.

Vode,

As mentioned last time I planned to built up a flat surface that I'm going to attach to my right gauntlet that I will put on some comlink & control pad greeblies. I finished the build up last night using 5 pieces of 3mm sintra. It actually turned out better than I thought (see pics). I couldn't find my drawing T, so I wasn't sure about the shape of the pieces when I drew them. But they actually turned out well. Next I'm going to Bondo over all of the seams and then sand them down smooth. Then I'm debating about giving it a coat or two of plastidip for additional strength. But after the bondo it may not need it.

As for the greeblies that I'll put on it, I've got an old broken calculator for buttons and a screen, though I will probably pay a visit to my local radio shack and home depot this weekend to look around for other buttons, greeblies, etc. to attach as well.

I"ve also still got to find some closure system for the gaunts. I've looked around here on the boards and noticed that a lot of folks use a piano hinge with a smaller wire with a bend in it to 'lock' the gaunts in place or use velcro. I'm not a big fan of either of those closure systems and was interested in other methods. Does anyone use a different method to 'lock' the gaunts in place?

Just read through the thread.. One idea for keeping the gauntlets closed maybe rare earth magnets or neomodian (sp?) magnets.

hope the new ones work out better for you cant Waite to see what you come up with this time.

as far as a closure system for your new gaunts  twistedxknights has the right idea rare earth magnets .

there not very expansive and come in all size's and shapes' plus there Dam strong' they take a real effort to pull apart

Vode,

Yes, unfortunately I did decide to scrap the previous gaunts. The gloves however, I'm still planning to use. Also thanks for the advice. I'll definitely look into using the earth magnets as a closure system.

Tibberon,

Yeah. The reason I decided to scrap the Terminator gaunts was that I didn't like the way they looked and they were a bit small and wouldn't stay closed. Ultimately, the new gaunts when finished will look much better than the Terminator gaunts and will fit better as well.

Thanks vode for the compliments and suggestions. I haven't had much time to work any further on the gaunts, but I plan to get back to work soon if the weather here ever warms up enough so I can go out and use the bondo.
