Revan Ordo's Gaunts WIP (Updated w/ Pics 12/10/09)
« on: Aug 17, 2009, 08:56 AM »
I recently purchased two of the Terminator 4 battle fist gaunts and have decided to mod them. I have taken them apart, removed all of the electronics and have cut out holes in the front for my arm to fit through. In order to get these to fit properly I'm definitely going to have to pad them. I've thought of using layers of craft foam, but if anyone has a better idea I'd welcome it. Also, I'm not sure how I'm going to keep it together. The top and bottom shells kind of snap together, but it isn't completely secure so it was held together by many screws. Not sure If I should go the hinge route or if I should just add some velcro strips to hold the gaunts together when I put them on. On the one hand, the velcro strips would be much easier to do. On the other the hinges would be cool, but would take a lot more work and there is of course the chance that the gaunts will be permanently damaged increases. Not sure, will have to give it a think. I'm open to suggestions.

Posted pics below of the progress so far. Sorry for the low quality of the pics, my camera is crapping out on me.

Isn't that a pain to have to screw them together each time that you want to put them on?

Update:

Over the weekend I took the gaunts and I cut off part of the back section to reduce the length of the gaunts so they wouldn't hinder arm mobility. After cutting, I noticed that both pieces were the same size and had a nice curvature to it, then it hit me, neck armor. So more than likely I will be using the two pieces as neck armor.

Yeah, but I only put them on once per day, I'm quite adept at doing things with gloves on. Also to give them a nice clean look around the wrist hole I used rubber toilet seals, they are just the right size and are thin enough to cut into two halves. You can find them in the plumbing section.

Interesting idea using the rubber toilet seals. It would definitely save time and make it look good. I guess that means a trip to Lowes this weekend.

This is looking nice as well. Are you going to add anything to the gaunts?

Dar'kumn,

I may add some greeblies here or there on them, but as far as attaching weapons, I haven't decided one way or the other. I just have not been able to come up with any great ideas for weapons to attach to them. But, I am open to any suggestions.

What kind of a field role does your mando play? I could try to come up with something fiotting the role if you want....

Dar'kumn,

My mando is a jack of all trades. Though he is especially known for being a great strategist and an anti- jedi/sith fighter.

No further progress at this point. This past weekend the humidity and precipitation were not conducive to doing any painting. Hopefully this upcoming weekend the conditions will improve.

Update:

Not much done on the bracers portion, but I did manage to put together some crush gaunts to go with the bracers thanks to Teaster's pics and advice, see below. The only other thing I'm going to do with the crush gaunts is to weather them.

As for the bracers portion, I've put them back together. I just need to devise a way to keep the two halves together. They actually snap together fairly well, but I will definitely need something to keep them together when on. I was thinking of using some industrial strength velcro, but I'm open to other options as well.

Corr,

Don't be jealous man. They aren't really all that difficult to construct. I did it in about an hour. You just need your gloves, some tools, and the spikes and dome studs. I've got 6 spikes left and about a 100 of the 1/2" dome studs and about the same number of the 3/8" dome studs. If your interested, I'll sell you what I have left for $5.00 if you don't mind picking them up. Then all you will need is two more spikes and some gloves .

The gloves give the gaunts a nice touch. I like how they just blend in like that. Looking Good vod.
